For some reason, people think they are being oh so sophisticated and glib, to make fun of Dick Van Dyke's accent in MARY POPPINS. I find it both tiresome and annoying. He gives my favorite performance by an actor in 1964. Accents do not a performance make. There isn't a single moment in the film where he isn't sheer perfection, with just the right emotion and interpretation on every line. People who judge his performance, strictly on the accent are ignoring a beautiful screen performance, which should be more highly regarded.
She's already been nominated as #18, by none other than Mr Sones. But, yeah, she does warrant being mentioned at least twice for that role.
I watched Klute again recently, and I continue to be amazed at her performance. I think it's one of the finest of ANY actress on the planet, particularly in the scenes with her therapist, and during the big finale when the camera holds on a tight shot of her face for a looooong time while she's terrified and crying. Just remarkable.
