I thought you liked it?

I said, after the first four eps, that it was good BUT could go terribly wrong.
It sure did.

Depressing
dreary
derivative
disgusting

One thing I liked: how they figured out how to kill the beast!

So, finished BRAINDEAD. Pretty cool show, a shame it was cancelled after just one season. I think in the subsequent seasons, they had planned to do Hollywood and other areas of life beyond politics.

I'm gonna take a chance on COUNTERPART next.

....aaaaand finished the first season of COUNTERPART. I see that a second season is forthcoming, which is good.

It's a fine show; a J.K. Simmons showpiece, reallly. The sci fi element is there in the other dimension theme, but is never very pronounced. This is more spy/conspiracy-type stuff than FRINGE.

After the first year or so, the recommendations in this thread subsided. I'm basically now recommending things to myself that I discover along the way. smile

One of those things is CASTLE ROCK, which I'm nonetheless surprised no one has mentioned, being such a high profile show. I've added it to the list and will start watching soon. I also have MASTERS OF HORROR lined up. I know I keep telling Bruce that I don't like anthology shows, and to an extent, that is still true. However, I think my appreciation of BLACK MIRROR opened me up a bit more. So I'm willing to give it a shot.

Also, I just discovered there was a series (another anthology show) called PHILIP K. DICK'S ELECTRIC DREAMS that aired last year. It has been added to the list.

Waiting for the inevitable porno: PHILIP K.'S ELECTRIC DICK DREAMS

Seen the first episodes of each of these three now.

MASTERS OF HORROR was disappointing. Rather hokey, literal, "90s" aesthetic going on, even if it was produced in 2005. But I'll continue watching, and hopefully it picks up.

CASTLE ROCK also seemed rather sluggish. A bit confusing setup for the main storyline, I though, and not terribly exciting (btw, I had no idea this was set in the Shawshank prison; makes sense that they had Thomas Newman write the opening theme, I guess, even if it sounds nothing like his SHAWSHANK score).

Same with ELECTRIC DREAMS. Could hardly understand what the male protagonist said (some broad Scottish accent?), and the adaptation of the Dick story seemed lacklustre.

BUT...hopefully, all of these will pick up eventually. I'll continue to stick with them for some time yet. Sometimes with new shows, first impressions can be deceiving.

I was really looking forward to Electric Dreams but ditched it after about three episodes. Like a lot of Dick's short stories there were interesting ideas but they weren't really expressed in the best ways.

Masters of Horror was equally disappointing. I watched a few but didn't really enjoy any. The John Carpenter one seemed loved by fans but the script was pretty bad.

Yeah, I had to jump ship on MASTERS OF HORROR (sorry, Bruce!). I couldn't take more than half of episode 2, and only a few minutes each of episode 3 and 4. I realize all the talent involved behind the scenes here, but it's the kind of hokey, melodramatic "schlock" that doesn't appeal to me. As I said, it looks like it's made in 1994, and I would probably have enjoyed it more, had I seen it then.

ELECTRIC DREAMS, however, is interesting enough that I'll watch the whole thing. Although the Steve Buscemi episode I just started watching was godawful, and I had to turn off after 20 minutes.

Hope you watched the MOH ep about dead US soldiers resurrecting to vote in the election.

The Buscemi ep was week.
But others are quite engaging.

Btw have you seen THE HUNGER from Canada. More softcore porn than horror but worth a look.

Haven't seen THE HUNGER, no. Does it have anything to do with the Tony Scott film?

Btw, I've edited the list and removed the 'shows that aren't what I'm looking for' tag, replacing them with shows in bold that I need to see instead. At this point, with few recommendations coming in, I can't be picky and instead need to check out everything that's being suggested. When I've sampled/seen all on the list, I need to travel the interwebz for shows myself.

lf.

Not really. But, David Bowie was the host and they WANTED you to think there was a connection.

Three episodes in, and it's very good. But I wouldn't expect anything less from the hands of Mike Flanagan, who's one of my favourite young horror directors at the moment.

Added the YouTube show IMPULSE to the list -- a fine show. Kinda HEROES, but more focussed. Youtube seems to be getting into their stride after the excellent COBRA KAI.

NETFLIX bombs again:
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

The lead recites her lines as if in a table read.
So darkly lit it is laughable.
The SJW content is so in your face it plays like SCTV,
(as bad as HILL.HOUSE) .
Watch BUFFY reruns instead.
Brm

P.s. Thor loves it, no doubt wink
