Nah. Chibnall is the one who held the BBC off until they caved in to HIS demands. I only wish the BBC HAD been more controlling of their biggest franchise. I'm one who's celebrating but only in a small way, because you're right. There's nothing to suggest that the next bunch will be any better, though some will say it can't be any worse. First off I don't agree with the female Doctor. I gave it a chance to see if my mind could be changed. But after my initial objection Jodie has been exceptionally poor. It didn't help that she flatly refused to research the character even slightly. The result being she seems to think the modern David tennant/Matt Smith hyperactive thing is what The Doctor is all about. And that's all there is to her 'portrayal'. Out of breath flapping around. It also doesn't help that she has the worst costume since the days of Colin Baker, and Sylvester McCoy's over-explosion of the stupid question mark motif. The last thing that doesn't help is that the revealed past Doctor, played by black guest actress Jo Martin (seen mainly in the UK in the weekly hospital soap, Holby City) in one of the last series' episodes was exceptionally GOOD. So they managed to underline the comparison between a good and bad female Doctor undermining to all and sundry how poor JW is. Then we come to Chibnall. Possibly the worst 'boss' of all time. His biggest crime being the appalling Timeless Children episode. After the slim backstory we ended up with being 'collected' slowly over a period of FIFTY years, he decides to wipe everything aside for his own idea in ONE FREAKIN' EPISODE!! A story that is full of annoyances, in particular that the character cannot now be called a Time Lord from Gallifrey, because he isn't anymore (imagine the uproar if DC decided Superman was NOT from Krypton) and not only is the William Hartnell original from 1963 not the first, he's something like the 343rd!! So I won't miss either of them one bit. The saddest part now is that the continuity is stuck with this canonical nightmare whatever they decide to do in future. I know similar upsets have split the fanbases of the 'big two' - Trek and Star Wars - as well. But it doesn't mean that just because something can be done it should be. Just a little more respect for the long term viewer wouldn't go amiss with these things instead of the new staff making names for themselves by being 'radical'. Just sayin'....

https://www.doctorwho.tv/news/?article=russell-t-davies-to-return-as-doctor-who-showrunner Well, where to begin? I have a cynical view of this. RTD has said repeatedly he'd never go back to Doctor Who, so you can see what's gone on. The BBC board, horrified by the reaction to Series 11 and 12, have obviously given RTD a ton of cash to come back and 'save the show'. It didn't need saving. I was looking forward to the next era of the show like everyone else but this smacks of a panic move by the BBC. I would much rather it was someone new. Thoughts? I know some of you will disagree with me. As regards casting, I suspect Lydia West is frontrunner as she ticks all the BBC boxes we hear about so much these days. Young, black, female, incredibly talented, a rising star, and has just worked with RTD on It's A Sin.

She ticks all the boxes that I want to see in the new Doctor: Young - I don't want to see another Hartnell / Capaldi codger trying to run around. It's just embarrassing for everyone. Black, Female - Absolutely essential. The Doctor was of course born a black female. No more cultural appropriation, I say. Incredibly talented - She'll have to be in order to maintain the momentum of Jodie Whittaker's charisma and gravitas pushing the show forward into the 21st century. A rising star - Well we wouldn't want an unknown nobody in the role, would we? Duh. Just worked with RTD - Clearly the most important quality of all for a new Doctor. And equally encouraging is RTD's description of Chris Chibnall as his friend and hero. My fellow Whovians, I think we are at the dawn of a new golden age of Doctor Who.
