The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021)

Thoroughly competent and thoroughly unremarkable.

Horror needs a new eye and voice, because just aiming to make teenage girls squeal in their panties ain't doin' it anymore.

6/10

Enfant Terrible (2020)

Dramatic biography of Rainer Werner Fassbinder's reign of terror in Europe. Like watching a walking, talking, coked up train wreck. Not particularly insightful, really, but does boast some very committed performances.

7/10

Satansbraten "Satan's Brew" (1976)

Absurdist (Fassbinder) comedy with some amusing bits early on establishing the characters (Kurt Raab in action is a sight to behold) and conflicts, but overstays its welcome by about 30 or 40 minutes.

6/10

The Taste of the Savage (1971) 6/10
Starring lots of real Mexicans and Cameron Mitchell.
Man gets shot/ murdered, wife hires Mitchell to teach son to shoot and avenge his dad. That's it. Ok ish a bit rough round the edges. Some lip sync issues. Quite bloody for its time. Also filmed on Mexico. It was a tortilla full. An extra point was for Mitchell.

It was a bit underwhelming. Whatserface wasn't too bad in the lead and whatsisface as the nutter was pretty decent but it was all a bit underwhelming. I've already forgotten 90% of it. Best bit was seeing the mafia guy from The Deuce being 20 years younger and playing almost exactly the same type of character. Fuggedubowdit (or summink).

Damian, good to see those persons of Mexico getting speaking parts. So i guess it was a Tortilla western? But were there any Persons of Danish or Finnish origins in it?

Xeb, you are being poncey, too many long words lol.
"Underwhelming x 2, whatserface, whatsisface, fuggedabowdit " you are just trying to show off and be superior.
big grin

I think you expect too much, too quickly. These things take time. In fact I was thinking of complaining that the film wasn't diverse, enough. There was one Greek/American and I'm sure Mitchell has got some European Stoke. Come to think of it a couple of the horses galloped with a euro accentsmile

Never Mind the Quality, Feel the Width (1983) 4/10
With John Bluthell, Joe Lynch, Eddie Byrnes and Youtha Joice.
Film version of TV. Series. Like most not much cop. A few smirks was about it. The hinted at better things but none came. Rather funnier was, while watching, the memory of a character Bluthell played in Spike Milligan's ' Q' series. That of ' Dr. R Slicker'.

Passe Sartana...e l'Ombra Della Tia Motte (1969) 5/10
With Jeff Cameron and a bunch of familiar faces.
Sartana agrees to rid the countryside of the Randall brothers gang. Rough round the edges but watchable. Plenty a shootin' n punchin'. Nice little gadget- the hero had a medallion round his neck. On the reverse was a small mirror that he used to watch the arseholes creep up on him, were they surprised! The were about four Mexicans in it, right at the beginning. Though one didn't look real. They'd over done his tanned face, he looked like a bar of caramack on hot sunny day. And just for the record the was one black man but he did have several lines and was briefly prominent.

The Dead Zone
9.5/10

A very good film. Excellent acting and a great score that really works. Some of the editing is a bit dicey early on, especially around the car crash. The stripped down story works in its three-act structure. Always nice to see Anthony Zerbe, and especially not playing a villain. It's interesting how late they leave the final plot line, though it's seeded throughout. The harsh Canadian weather looks suitably glum on film.
