279. Ado, whose "analysis" reveals that he digs crazy chicks--TNG's Counselor Troi--in "Another Random Star Trek zooba Post":

"I rather liked that she was probably the craziest person on board, and she was the therapist."

Just crazy is bad. Crazy and intelligent are the best.

280. Kev McGann--remember him?--roars back into this thread with his cheeky idea for "New Home Alone Remake":

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-49260934

"I've got the perfect pitch!

"When the McAllisters accidently forget their young WHITE SON when they go off on holiday, comedy ensues when a band of Nazi White Supremists attack the home of young Kevin, in the midst of his transitioning.
The McAllisters must race against time to save their young BLACK DAUGHTER from the evil Nazi's.

KER!!
CHING!!"

281. Disco Stu sticking it to The Land of Dirk Kuyt in "Amsterdamned DVD":

"That thing has been on DVD here for years and went straight to the bargain bin and deservedly so. An extremely badly acted cliché ridden film that looks like a few teenagers wanted to make a film to show on their job interviews. Dick Maas is an absolute hack and has an arrogance that makes one wonder where he ever got the idea he earned the right to that attitude (sort of a Dutch verion of Tarantino).

The man is responsible for one of the most vulgar Dutch films (and that requires a lot of effort): Flodder. That turd spawned two sequels and a TV series. How proud we are of that body of work a real ambassador for the country and an example to every job everywhere.

Amsterdamned is his least anoying film but it must be watched then it's best accompanied by a laught track. The Dutch can´t act and this is the prime example.

If you enjoy it, good for you. I sincerely wish you have a lot of fun watching it but don´t think there´s not better stuff available from the Netherlands even though we can´t act.

If we want to we can do better. It's just we don't want to we think that having connections with the Amsterdam crowd and knowing a few Dutch "celebrities" make for good film making.

If you want to see a Dutch film of very high quality that is also very funny, I suggest Bert Haanstra´s documentary "Alleman". You will need a subtitled version to get all the details but mostly it's a study in humanity that is universal and on the level of Jaque Tati wordless comedies.

Another good film but definitely NOT a comedy, is "De aanslag" an Oscar winner and an interesting film.

Sorry if I came on too strong but that Maas really get's my acid boiling.

D.S."

283. Nicholas_DW's frothy, Chernobyl-style meltdown in "Blu-ray--Jonny Quest: The Complete Series":

"Sooooo... When Dr. Quest or Race refer to any native as a "savage" (even when they're an ally of the heroes) that's just a way to refer to a "backward society." Good God, that reeks of colonialism. Refer to them as savages because of how backward they are and show them how not to suck so much because they're living "wrong." Give them the gift of God because they're "heathens." Native islanders don't harm anyone. They're typically self-contained societies whose only concerns are living a comfortable life. They certainly don't cross the globe, conquering others and justifying it with the idea that those being persecuted are harmful or backward.

"You can bullshit as much as you want, but only characters who aren't white are ever called "savage." The Westboro Baptist Church members would never be called "savage" or any other term associated with non-whites because that's an asinine strawman argument. "Fanatics" would be an appropriate word, as would "zealot," but no one would say savage (and certainly not heathen).

"The notion that native islanders, and non-whites in general, are "backward" or "harmful" by default is bigoted as hell. It's the same line of thinking that was used to justify the genocide in the Americas and ignoring that is the real rewriting of history. For the sake of a cartoon no less.

"I used to love Jonny Quest as a kid. I watched it religiously, but when it began airing on Boomerang I was soon done with it altogether. You guys can bend over backwards trying to justify the terminology used on the show, or deriding those of us who object as having "wee delicate sensibilities," but there's a reason this nonsense isn't said anymore. It's racist. Talk about wee delicate sensibilities. You'd rather overlook the bigotry of a show's language than listen to reason because it's something you watched as a kid.

"Watch away, but don't lie to yourself or concoct absurd attempts at justification. Though I'd love to see you guys try to explain the Our Gang short where one of the African American kids is having a bad day throughout, only to be cheered up with a watermelon at the story's end."

"Savages" or not, they're leaving those countries in droves. When was the last exodus from, say, Norway to, say, Nigeria?

P.S. I don't think I've even ever watched an entire episode of Jonny Quest though from what I've seen, Dr. Quest and Race Bannon were definitely "vested" in one another. Now, THAT'S progressive.

Can't it be gay and racist at the same time? Hmmm, let's get out the old Ouija board and ask those noted pink progressives J. Edgar Hoover and Roy Cohn.

Was that the same frothy hysteric that had a meltdown in the "Rise of Skywalker" thread about how we need more diversity, even if it's forced upon us? That guy needs help. BADLY!!!

They weren't called " African American kids" in those days.
