Since I finally decided to get a region-free player, I will be able to test it out big time on the Aussie release of "McCloud" which finally gives us the first season episodes from the "Four-In-One" year in their original 60 minute format.

You won't regret that move. The world is now your dvd store.

It does widen the possibilities, though for US shows, I only want to go the foreign region route if I am absolutely convinced its never going to come here in R1. With "McCloud" I think even if it gets restarted in R1, they'll just resume with S3 and not redo S1.

"Marcus Welby, M.D." officially makes it to Season 2.

http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Marcus-Welby-MD-Season-2/13963

And "All In The Family" stalled at 6 of 9 seasons for quite some time, gets restarted through a licensing out to Shout!

The show's latter seasons contain fewer episodes that are worth watching, but S7 I will enjoy for the memorable episode where Mike breaks Archie's chair.

Two great ones!! Along with The Odd Couple and The Honeymooners, All in the Family is in my sitcom Triple Crown. One of the things which always knocks me out about "Cousin Liz" is that the Emmy-winning script is by Weiskopf and Schiller who spent most of their earlier career writing for Lucy, before going to Maude and then AITF. Nothing wrong with Lucy, just that it couldn't be more different from Cousin Liz.

And "Archie's Chair" is filled with wonderful moments, especially nice because all the cast members get to have at least one. I read an interview with Norman Lear where he was asked if his father thought that way about his chair. Lear said he didn't know, but that was how HE thought about his father's chair.

Another highlight of the 7th season (Cousin Liz was the 8th, but let's not count our Shout chickens yet) is "Archie's Brief Encounter", a terrific character piece that adds some new dimension to Archie and Edith. The 7th and 8th seasons in general exchanged controversies for character studies, and the results were sometimes outstanding and sometimes less so. When they worked, however, they were riveting, and "Archie's Brief Encounter" was one of my favorites.

For those who prefer the early years, "Archie the Liberal" is a delightful throwback. Very funny, especially seeing Archie try to be gracious. Echoes of "Sammy's Visit" of course, but in some ways, more sharply written and acted than its more famous ancestor.

Great news about All in the Family!! I just hope Shout ensures that the episodes are uncut. If we've waited 3 years for butchered episodes a la Rhoda, I'll march into Shout's offices and have a fit.

If- IF ONLY- we get seasons 7 and 8 of AITF, I can be happy. I want season 9, but it was the beginning of "The Era of Stephanie", and the series had pretty much run it's course. I could live without it.

Looking at the whole list of S7 episodes, I had forgotten that there were more clunkers than good ones overall (including the offensive "Draft Dodger" episode; in fact it seemed like AITF always went out of its way to be at their most offensive with their Christmas episodes. One year after that we had to have the disconcerting two part episode with the tranvestite's murder). But the good ones in this season like Archie's Chair, and also one where everyone is trapped on the subway ("All you done was belt him!") are ones I still regard as essential AITF viewing.

The Barbara Anderson era makes it to completion on DVD! Season 4 of "Ironside" will be getting its R1 release this fall through the Shout select program.

http://tvshowsondvd.com/news/Ironside-Season-4/14006

Getting through the end of this era was the key thing for me. Although Elizabeth Baur has a nice enough presence starting in S5, getting that era of the show will be more icing on the cake.

Early indications would seem to be that November is when we will see the first half of S4 ("IN COLOR!") of "The Fugitive" come to DVD. And the rumor has it that CBS/Paramount has taken its time on this to make sure there will be no music replacement issues that have plagued S2 and S3.

Five long years of waiting finally at an end with the arrival of "Dragnet" S2 today at last!

First thing I watched was the 1966 pilot movie that relaunched the series (though not aired until 1969), and it is a very well-done effort.

This was exciting news to me as a longtime fan of the show; didn't think it would actually happen:

(Yeah I know it's not "vintage")

Greater would be reassurance that Mary's hilarious "One For My Baby" is in the episode its supposed to be in. Thank goodness "Tipperary" is in the public domain at least!

Universal announces the S1 release of "The Bionic Woman" on October 19.

HOWEVER......look at what the specs say.

"Universal's announcement this morning describes a DVD release with a video aspect ratio of "Anamorphic Widescreen (1.78:1)".

If this is true and not an error, then I would like to ask what kind of morons are in charge at Universal to do something like this????????

This is not a funny joke, Eric. Now you just stop making stuff up. Oh...you're not making it up.

Has Universal lost its collective mind?! As the disappointed owner of WB's Kung Fu Season 1, I will never again watch a full frame classic TV show mutated into pseudo-widescreen which is as hurtful to the original format as panning & scanning is murderous to 2.35:1 cinema. This is just outrageously stupid. I wanna form a pitchfork mob!

EDIT - I just saw the other thread indicating that the aspect ratio text was an error. I'll call off the midgets with cannons and the old men with pitchforks and other pointy weapons. I was so ready for a mob party, dammit.

Let's hope they include the "In Color!" tags at the beginning of "The Fugitive" Season 4 episodes (and YES, the music, too!) on the Season 4 D.V.D. sets.

THRILLER due out the end of August. 14 dvd set. Haven't seen an episode in twenty-five years. It used to be on late-night on local TV:

Can't wait. And Bless whoever decided to put it all on one set.

ISOLATED SCORES- ISOLATED SCORES-ISOLATED SCORES..... big grin

It was on late Friday night on the Sci Fi channel, too.

CBS/Paramount rescues "Sergeant Bilko" from the abandoned on DVD scrap heap. Back in 2006 they released an 18 episode "Best of" compilation but only now is the full first season being released.

Glad to hear about it!
