Finished JEKYLL, which was pretty good. James Nesbitt was excellent as a modern-day Jekyll & Hyde! Now I'm moving on to one of your other recommendations, CHARLIE JADE (if I can find it). I tried to find STRANGE, but since it has no DVD release or is otherwise available, I had to put that on hold for now. Meanwhile, several of my favourite shows are back on the air with new seasons - SUPERNATURAL, FRINGE, WAREHOUSE 13 and also newbie TERRA NOVA. DR. WHO finished, but will be back for the Christmas special, as always.

Finally finished the first and only season of CHARLIE JADE. Took me long enough, but that's only because it's an EXTREMELY ambitious show, with a very complex narrative delving back and forth between universes, times and other variables. You really have to pay attention to stick with it -- especially because it also has a very stylized, arty mode of communication (editing, speed, filters etc.) -- -- which is why it isn't exatly something where you immediately latch on to the next episode. The last episode, for example, could have been a French New Wave film in terms of complexity. I loved the BLADE RUNNER atmosphere of the Alphaverse, though. All in all a show to get lost in -- both in a positive and negative sense. But I can certainly see why it was cancelled after the first season. Too heady. And with a psychopathic antagonist with whom you're supposed to sympathize. I'm currently going through the animated Manga version of SUPERNATURAL, which mostly is crap, to be honest. And still following the currently ongoing shows FRINGE, TERRA NOVA, SUPERNATURAL, SANCTUARY and THE WALKING DEAD. Next show up is probably ALPHAS.

I tried to find STRANGE, but since it has no DVD release or is otherwise available, I had to put that on hold for now. I thought as much. I recently caught a marathon screening on Chiller, but they missed out one episode and the others were edited quite badly. As for the BBC releasing it on DVD, perhaps they were embarrassed by the show?

OK, I finished the first season of ALPHAS, which apparently no one here had heard of. Well, it was OK, but not 'edge-on-the-seat'-type exciting where you just HAVE TO watch one more episode when the former has finished. I'm a bit weary of investigation-type shows -- paranormal or not -- and the 'special gifts' thing is also wearing thin. But I understand that it's been renewed, so maybe it will grow on me in the second season. I've also started PUSHING DAISIES. Cute and whimsical and original and all that (although it does seems to channel Tim Burton, Josh Whedon, DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES etc.), but I don't really catch the tone. A bit too whimsical, too much rapid-fire dialogue etc. I still have one and a half season left, though, so I'll make some final judgements then. Finally -- in what has become Thor's Blog of the Paranormal TV shows from the 90's () -- I also discovered a 2008 mini-series called IMPACT, which is about the moon on a collision course with Earth. I haven't watched it yet, but the premise sounds intriguing. Love apocalyptic stuff.

Well, I finally finished the two seasons of PUSHING DAISIES. I stuck with it untill the end (since I like to complete things I've started), but it never managed to grab me. Too whimsical and the run-on sentences and condensed information units often annoyed me so much that I tuned out completely. But at least it was a unique style, inspired by Tim Burton, Joss Whedon etc., and it deserves credit for that. Still, it's far from the shows I had in mind when I created this thread. As I needed another show to look into, I went on to the recent and ongoing AMERICAN HORROR STORY. It's OK so far, but seems to have a little too many plot threads going on simultaneously. I hope they don't walk into the LOST trap. The horror aspect of it varies from scary to not so scary, and the jump cuts are a bit jarring. I'll see how it develops.

Meh. Tried two episodes of THE MIDDLEMAN and hated it. So no more of that. I already struggled my way through both seasons of PUSHING DAISIES, which was more of the same (but with a more interesting visual style). I'm NOT a fan of the quirky, rapid-fire dialogue shows like this. In better news, I DID manage to find a copy of STRANGE at long last, which I'm almost through now. Nice show, very "BBC" with lots of exposition and crime investigation (perhaps a bit too much at times) but with that whole demon thing which I love. Effects were variable, but quite good when they were on (usually reserved for the end of each episode). The music by Dan Jones (SHADOW OF THE VAMPIRE) was brilliant. Big, muscular, melodic, it reminded me of Chris Gunning's COLD LAZARUS. So now what? Ongoing shows I follow have ended or nearing the end of their season. I need a new, older show that has already finished its run (or been cancelled). Preferably not too many seasons. From the list in the first post, there isn't much to choose from anymore. Some more 'quirky' things that I have no interest in. Or some very long ones.
