Ah, screw it! Lack of recommendations and being very lazy right now and not in the mood to spend hours on the interwebz searching for another paranormal show, I've decided to start the much-lauded BREAKING BAD instead. Not paranormal, but has an interesting premise nonetheless.
Thor, how far have you gotten through on American Horror Story? I must say that I am addicted to this show because it throws out all ghost story conventions out the proverbial window and I find that refreshing. But I also ask because this past weeks episode threw a HUGE curve ball, one that I did not expect or see coming but makes perfect sense.
This show is gonzo but in a grand guignol way with smart and snappy writing. And to be sure, this show is not for the squeamish or prudish by any means.

Yes, I've been following that show, all the way up to the girl being revealed as dead.
I like it, although the scariness of the first couple of episodes has subsided in favour of more character drama.
Finished all four seasons of BREAKING BAD. Fantastic and totally addictive show, and I can't wait for the fifth (and final?) season. I wish there was more writing like this, maybe even in a paranormal setting.
So now I need another show again, finished or ongoing.
Is GRIMM worth checking out?
Also -- since I broke out of the paranormal mold with BREAKING BAD, any other show that is equally cleverly written, but that isn't necessarily paranormal? I've heard lots of good stuff about MAD MEN and THE WIRE, among others. Tried a few episodes of SOPRANOS once, but didn't quite grab me.
I finally found someone who had the HAUNTED DVD set, starring Matthew Fox from LOST. Watched the the first episode, and it was OK. Seems to be in the MEDIUM territory (another series I have yet to check out, btw).
Thanks for the recommendation, Thor, for "The Fades" -- just programmed my DVR so I won't miss the first episode. Sorry you didn't like "Haunted" -- I am a sucker for any paranormal private detective stuff -- so it appealed to me in a big way.

Well, I've only seen two episodes of it so far. It's a bit boring, but that's because I've grown a bit weary of detective shows (and I don't like crime films and shows in the first place), but there are some nice things about it. I'll see all the episodes through.
THE FADES, on the other hand, is REALLY good. I wonder if there will be more seasons or if it's a one-off mini-series thing.
I haven't heard if there will be another series beyond the six episodes. BBC America is heavily editing the episodes. Episode 2 was the worst so far. Some scenes were unwatchable, because of the cuts.

Really? That sucks. I don't understand why they would do that.
Anyways, the show ends kinda open-ended, so a second season wouldn't be that farfetched.
The first couple of episodes were OK, but then it quickly plummets from there. It just becomes out-right boring eventually, with very little overarching arc to latch on to (except the Simon nemesis, who appears far too seldom). Very predictable too. And too much 'whodunnit' investigation at the cost of paranormal activity.
I'm considering the British show MISFITS, which a colleague of mine recommended. Kinda like the British, working class version of HEROES (another show I've postponed, btw).

I can see why it was cancelled.
I heard it was due to low ratings.
Yeah, but low ratings usually happen for a reason. In this case, I think it was simply because it didn't offer that much new, and was pretty much a run-of-the-mill 'whodunnit' without that cliffhanger "mythological" backdrop to make people tune in every week.
