In Germany and the Netherlands (where I go regularly, I live near the border), things are in many ways back to "normal", albeit with more restrictions. Social distancing is encouraged everywhere, in Germany, you have to wear masks in shops etc., but restaurants have re-opened, the shops are well stocked, and many industries make much more home office. Health officials are wary that the relative comfort now should not make people get too relaxed, as the disease is neither contained nor cured, but we simply know a bit better how to deal with it. I dislike wearing a mask to cover my face when entering a store -- ever since childhood I hated it even if a blanked was pulled up my nose -- but it's a small price to pay when things are more or less running smoothly again, and of course I'm doing it. Makes a lot of sense, as social distancing and wearing masks appear to be the most effective methods of preventing further spreading.

I really do envy how things seems to have stabilized there, at least at this point. Things there of course could change. Here in the States...it's maddening. The Federal govt has pretty much washed it's hands at handling it on a national level and have left it to the states and local authorities to pretty much decide on what to do on just about everything - mask wearing or not, schools opening or not, closing bars and large social gatherings or not. etc. It's now apparently raging out of control in FL, TX, CA and AZ. Most states are now increasing in both positive rates of infection and hospitalizations and deaths. I live in Atlanta and we are now having a positive rate just under 11%, way more than back when all of this started. Virtually all of the hospitals are near capacity levels for beds and ICU beds. The mayor instituted an order to roll back to Phase 1 and the Governor SUED her to admonish her and the other cities that were doing the same thing, stating she overstepped her authority!! Well, at least cooler heads prevailed and he withdrew that and they are having amicable meetings in an effort to at least try and work together. But wearing masks, the most fundamental thing to do since no one is sheltering in place, has become a political and social firestorm. Fights and assaults and innumerable vids of people going at each other for either wearing one or not wearing one. It's mind boggling. All I can do of course is keep doing what I've been doing - work from home, wear my mask when out shopping, avoid restaurants and large gatherings, wash my hands frequently and pray and keeping fingers crossed that the stage 3 vaccine trails work AND that more effective treatments will soon unfold.

Lick your finger . . . to test which direction the wind is coming from. On second thought . . . don't! Would that be with trousers down?

Im still here, DiB. But im avoiding all negative news for my sanity and serenity. No BBC for sure, and very little media beyond the weather forecast. Yeah, it is frustrating when people around you arent taking precautions. Well, thank goodness you're back. I can't function of a week without reading something you wrote that makes me roll my eyes!

Got to watch my first dvd of a full-length movie from the library. A bit of normalcy returns (except it took about 3 weeks to get it after submitting the request.)

"I don't understand why you didn't go. I mean, it's family. There's no coronavirus in OUR family." Oh, geez. And here I thought it was only Americans who were casual about all this. It's probably everywhere.

"It's like having run a marathon, just reaching the end and being told you have another 42 km to go". Indeed. It only just occurred to me a few days ago, the following thought: When this first started, I thought it would be a month, maybe 2 at the most. Now, I'm realizing we just don't know how long this could take. It could even be past the end of the year. Kind of like living during WWII, maybe?

The boss called my request to put things to hand to me, 6 feet away for me to get, "off-putting." (Never mind she's doing it bare-handed...) It turns out she thinks that if we're wearing a mask, we're fine. Why, then, are they asking us to maintain social distance if masks are enough? I pointed out. She had no reply.

No shelter-in-place, here, but I'm sure doing it. Last week's estate sale cured me of going anywhere except the grocery, or the library to do outdoor pick up of books/videos.

Haha, imagine paying for Disney + then being asked to pay an additional $30 dollars for select movies. I'm sure they would rather show it in the theaters but if they find out they can get away with this more will come. Just cut out the middle-man. ( the theater owners) This is why the world pie-rates. One parent and one child (with popcorn) going to see the film in the theater would also cost $30. Or you can wait until the price drops.
