How come there hasn't been a "bad boy of film music" since Bernard Herrmann?

Should it be a prerequisite that all filmscores be composed with stand-alone-listening pleasure accommodations?

How come none of those folks who claim the Earth is overpopulated ever set the example for everyone else?

So, this young man pretends to be a cop with flashing lights on his car and pulls people over late at night and gives them warnings, but no ticket. One night he is caught on police body cam doing it. He confesses to the real policeman that he is only "playing at cop". Then in court, he pleads "Not Guilty"!

Were the 1980s the only decade in which men and women had the same hairstyles?

Why aren't FSMers expressing grief over the death of Star Wars actor Diahann Carroll?

Has a Star Trek nerd ever named their daughter Tranya?

HEY KEV, I'm using a quotation of yours from the music side of the board. Kev said:

I admit to being one of the sceptics who thought they were a serial anonymous poster creator, rebirthing themselves every few weeks/months, under a new name.

That is such a clear statement of my question, and I'm not referring to anyone in particular.

So why do certain posters come here and "rebirth" themselves with new identities? What is their point? (I am especially thinking about someone who claimed to be a 17 year old guy and a composer and came back, I think, as others.) Why do this? Also, why do some members post under two or more monikers or names? What is the point? This all evades me.

I think that there are many reasons, but the biggest one would be that the person wants to "belong"--to have a kinship and gather with like-minded others.
But in one way or another, they lack whatever skill it is to engage in conversation without eventually falling into conflict.
Over time, the animosity cannot help but appear (no matter how well-intentioned or well-concealed at the start) and it's usually heralded by the gradual descent into the same patterns of speech that was shown in their previous identity.
But it always comes back to that same desire to belong, doesn't it?

And Sock Puppets? God knows.

(Sorry, I know none of this was an actual question in a Stupid Questions thread.)

Thank you, Octoberman, for your sagacious insights. I agree that speech patterns do eventually emerge. (Or writing style) The need to belong also makes perfect sense. I just hope that people who do these things don't find some kind of smug joy in duping or fooling us. I sense sometimes that actually happens.

I think that's where a healthy sense of skepticism is practical--like Kev said in the other thread.
(I'm still skeptical on that particular case, frankly.)

But Marsh could be right--I am probably just psychobabbling.
I dunno. It's all "eye of the beholder" stuff, I guess.

(Oh, and derailing too. I do that.)

Or maybe you are providing all of us some valuable insights over questions a lot of us on this board have pondered. You didn't derail anything. Thank you.

Well, I meant my role in threadjacking Mr. Kendall's board maintenance thread.
But, honestly, I tried my best to be objective and balanced.
In any case, I appreciate the props Joan.

Tomorrow I will probably wish I hadn't "gone there". LOL
