Great British Bake Off - I'm hoping for Chrystelle to win it.

I agree with you. Her or that youngster from Scarbados. Giuseppe and Juergen also have a good shout but one of them will have an unfeasibly bad week and get booted off about half way through. It always happens to one of the better ones.

I agree that Juergen and Giuseppe are going to have to have an awful week for either of them not to make the final at the rate they are going. They're very good.

Squid Game ended fair enough. There was a major subplot that really went absolutely nowhere. And little bits that seemed like a set up that had no pay-off. And some bad acting by the only non-Asians in it.

If you can buy into the obviously bonkers idea, it is entertaining. I liked the way the various lead characters were written and the music also stood out on several occasions. I'd watch a second series.

Billions season finale finished strongly after what was probably its weakest season. Its still good but as reported already they are making established characters change to suit plot twists and that loses its top-rate credibility. If previous seasons were a 9.5 then this season was probably a 7.5.

Damian lewis has confirmed he won't be in the show's next season but that could be a ruse or a set up for a ratings boost return the season after.

Yup, it's a good bunch this year. Juergen (what a cliché; an efficient German) had a hiccup this week, but came through okay. I also like Chrystelle, a very cool & impressive person & the youngest Freya (with all that hair) seems to be enjoying it & isn't at all fazed by the judges.

...I also really like the Extra Slice programs, cheesy but good fun (& I'm fascinated by Jo Brand's new glasses).

Schitt$ Creek

Late to the party on this one but after enduring the initial episodes, this has grown on me. Binge watching now.

I love a series that sees characters develop and grow.

Unless we’re talking Arrested Development or 30 Rock.......those characters need to stay hilariously constant.

Finished Billions. Corey Stoll is a great new introduction to an already outstanding cast.

Reservation Dogs is funny and quite heartfelt. Doesn't go where you think it will. Worth a watch.

Ghosts - series 2 - An amusing and thoughtful comedy about a host of ghosts haunting the couple who own a manor house.

Continuing with season 2 of The Morning Show.

It remains a self-important, performative, glossy soap starring two of the most overrated actresses working … but it does showcase the devilishly charming Billy Crudup, who is as good a reason as any to watch, I suppose.

I was 'forced' to watch Bake Off whilst staying with my mum earlier this week..... What utter garbage.

For myself, I have been watching UFO, the seventies Gerry Anderson series. I watched it when I was a kid, maybe when I was seven or eight.....didnt appreciate the tottie then. Gabrielle Drake is really hot. Best line so far.....From George Sewell as his plane is under UFO attack.... "the lack of cloud cover worries me..... It's as revealing as a G string on a belly dancer". This is more adult than I remember it!! There is loads of sexual innuendo, shots of women in tight uniforms etc..... I just remember the purple wigs and 'space' ships

The Magician (1973-74, with Bill Bixby)

I finally bought this show; I'd long been intrigued by it, hoping for something relatively "classy" and witty like Banacek or Ellery Queen. But it's too action-oriented and conventional for my taste - it's OK on a low-expectations level, but not on a fiendishly clever one. One episode, for instance, deals with the LA Chinese-American community - but in a teevee style of a secret lair lorded over by Joseph Wiseman, for Pete's sake. (There's a hasty reference to his character meant to be Eurasian.) Banacek or Rockford would have said, "You've got to be kidding me!" when confronted with all of this cliche, but Bixby's Tony Blake takes it seriously - and we're meant to as well. This series was produced by Paramount, not Universal, so that might make the difference.

I like the magic trick stuff, especially the magic show scenes - and, again, it's fun if I pretend I'm 11 or 12 while watching the eps. I was just hoping for something more stylish and clever.

KIN

An Irish gangster series that's very good after a couple of episodes. I was a huge fan of Love/Hate and it's along those lines.

"The only issue is that they say Tw*t and C*nt a lot in a way that's almost shoehorned in and unnecessary almost every time they use them. Modern TV (and comedy in particular) seems to love those words and think themselves edgy and shocking. It's just tiresome"
----------------------------
100% agree with you here, Xeb.
I now switch a series off, if the writers have decided THIS is the way to go for 'Edgy' and 'Funny'.
Gervais thankfully reigned it in for the second series of AFTER LIFE (it was annoying, somewhat, during the first).
There's a Sky comedy series, starring Martin Freeman, about a young couple trying to cope with their kids (can't remember its name) that is unwatchable, due to the issue you mentioned.

100% agreement. Tiresome and annoying. Despite enjoying Game of Thrones, it was a big turnoff. Usually I don't bother with stuff for the reason you say.

Btw, did MIDNIGHT MASS last week and totally enjoyed it. Even better, I managed to get the first episode past the wife before she realised it was a horror. By then she'd got into the characters and bingo! Enjoyed it almost as much as me. Result. If only I could get Bly Manor under the radar....

Never get tired of this show. One of the few series where everyone from the main cast to supporting characters are so interesting and distinct and well played. (and Remini is so damn hot) Unfortunately had playback issues with my DVD set. Had a really hard time navigating to certain episodes.

I remember loving this show when it aired. I was the right age I think. Don't remember a thing about it though. Would love to see it again.

It certainly has one of the all-time great main themes, courtesy of Patrick Williams:

Scenes From a Marriage (HBO limited)

This one made me chuckle. There's nothing quite like watching a nasty breakup unfold before your eyes. Can't say I was moved by any of it, though. Satisfactory performances from Isaac and Chastain.

A few weeks ago I noticed that a TV channel was showing How I Met Your Mother, two episodes every morning. I'd missed the first six, but I started recording them & watch one (maybe two) every day, I'm on season six now. I'd forgotten just what a great & well written sit-com it was.
