Now this is clearly a fan cover - but I am still hoping for a release of the great music from this series.

Specifically the music from Season One's run:

Night of The Sentinels
-Storm's epic theme
-The Terminator-esque Sentinel Theme
-excellent variations on the X-men theme song
-Action/Battle Theme
-pilot specific themes for The Danger Room/Beast etc.
-Rock Guitar for Wolverine's Theme

Enter Magneto
-Magento's Theme/Villian's theme

Slave Island
Cable's Theme

Days of Future Past
-Bishop's Theme
-The Dark themes of the Future/Nimrod Sentinel

Come the Apocalypse
-Archangel's Theme
-Apocalypse's Theme

I could go on...but I'd prefer to hear from other fans of the series!

I'd bug Intrada since it seems Disney works closely with them. I think it would sell.

There is a panel at SDCC coming very soon talking about the show's 25th Anniversary.

The 25th anniversary celebration of X-Men: The Animated Series in 7AB at 3PM with showrunner Eric Lewald, series producer/director Larry Houston, and series writers.

I want this soundtrack so bad.

Cal Dodd, who voiced Wolverine on this show, is gonna be at a convention a little over an hour from me this weekend. I'll probably stop by to shake his hand and get an autograph.

Did anyone here get the "Previously, On X-Men" book that came out last year? Its a solid read by one of the showrunners. A little amateurish in language but really revealing of what went into the show. Apparently, the guy who penned the title theme had to do it a zillion times because of micro-management and now he absolutely hates hearing it.

Thanks for that LeHah - I was curious if there was any discussion about the music in the book. I would like to read this one someday. I think the best option to get it in Canada is on the Kindle app - physical copies are over $50+

Robert J Walsh's X-men theme song is pretty catchy.

I do remember listening to an interview with Ron Wasserman about the X-men theme song saying that they didn't want the words "X-men" to be sung, or spoken in the theme song.

Since I don't imagine Intrada releasing this, it seems unlikely to be coming anytime soon. LLLR looked into it and in the last few months when asked about it, MV said:

Disney sadly

frown

Same with the Spiderman animated series'

Hence my comments to MV in the questions thread about going out for beers with other labels *cough* Intrada *cough* for some wink wink nudge nudgin'

Long read but totally fascinating account of Haim Saban's rise to power with Shuki Levy helping along the way. X-Men, Power Rangers and World Politics...

Saban Entertainment was founded in 1980, and Saban and Levy embarked on a lucrative partnership creating music for cartoons, composing scores for such series as “Inspector Gadget,” “The Mysterious Cities of Gold,” “Dinosaucers,” “Dragon Quest,” “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe,” and “Princess of Power.”

Over time, Saban and Levy went from creating music to producing such shows as “Kid Video,” a combination of live action and music videos, an animated version of “X-Men,” and, finally, the holy grail of campy, low-budget youth-targeted superhero fare, the Japanese series “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.”

It is a really great read. It also really make me wonder about the music of X-men and how much was actually composed by Levy himself.

Wasserman when interviewed can't remember when exactly he came on to write the music. He does remember doing the theme song. But I do know that Night of the Sentinels music is quite distinct, and has some classic Shuki sounds in it - similar to his earlier stuff - some of that doesn't go beyond Enter Magneto. But it doesn't establish some character themes such as Storm's theme.

So I saw the news about a lawsuit over the theme song pop up on my social media feed yesterday:

It claims that the X-Men theme song “is substantially similar to the theme song of Linda. It was the result of unauthorized copying of Vukan's copyrighted work, with some minor alterations. … The subject, the tempo (pace), the harmonization and the sounding (instrumentation) is identical.”

I watched the theme song for Linda here, I don't think it's similar at all. To me this one is laughable. I see other folks commenting the opposite and I wonder if they're tone deaf?

On the one hand, they do have kind of a case. There is some similarity.

On the other, how did it take them twenty-freaking-seven years to make a move? Someone's looking for a payout.

Grant they changed something for X-Men but I for one can clearly hear the similarity between the two themes. X-Men pretty much copied the Linda The Cop theme and changed the pitch a bit.

For the Linda theme about 2 seconds in is when you can hear it during the X-Men theme just sped up in the X-Men theme. The copy part is the guitar that starts about 10 seconds into the video for the X-Men theme.

Again they changed it slightly for the X-Men but over all that part in the X-Men theme sounds nearly identical. There are merits for a lawsuit.

How can he not hear the similarities? It's not note for note, but it's more than a little similar!
