Seth McFarlanes Live-Action Space Action Comedy show seems to be the most promising scoring project in recent memory.broughton and mcneely sci-fi from a man who loves classic scoring...fuck yes. maybe even ron jones since he seems to work with mcfarlane frequently.

Dear Lord, I hope there's a soundtrack album.

I missed this first time around, but TrekMovie.com recently repeated the news:

"In a tweet earlier in the week he touted two of his composers saying: “Joel McNeely, Bruce Broughton, and a 75-piece orchestra– The Orville is gonna sound pretty good.”

Both composers mentioned by MacFarlane are Emmy winners; in fact Broughton has won nine Emmys and has been nominated for two Oscars. And using a full symphony-sized orchestra is something more common with feature films these days, but MacFarlane and Fox seem willing to dedicate resources for The Orville. "

Yes, I do hope that there's an album from this.

Btw, what happened with McNeely? According to IMDB (I know) it is Broughton and Debney?

I suspect somebody thought Broughton scored all the episodes and submitted him for every single one on IMDb, since most reports online failed to mention McNeely.

The Debney addition must be somebody correcting it. I've contacted Joel to ask him which ones he did, so I can fix the listing. I've submitted missing credits and corrections credits for him on IMDb and let him know and he was appreciative, so I suspect he'll respond back.

I was right. Season one composers:

Bruce Broughton (one episode; pilot and theme)
Joel McNeely (six episodes)
John Debney (five episodes)
Andrew Cottee (one episode)

I'll clear up the IMDb listing if and when I can.

Fantastic main title (I guess it is)! Thanks for sharing, Lokutus.

With scores by Broughton, McNeely and Debney, I really hope we'll seen an album of highlights from the show, even if it's only digital.

Nice touch getting someone who worked on yer actual Star Trek (even if it was on two of the spinoffs) for the series.

Ohh!! Very nice! And what's that I hear at ~0:30? A brief hint of Broughton's music from The Timekeeper? What is your diagnosis, Dr. Nigel Channing?

Subtle, but yes, I hear it too.

Just heard about this very promising project last night from a friend who plays French horn in the orchestra. Glad the word is getting out. Here's hoping...

Sounds like a big, sweeping science fiction score from the early 1990s. Nice orchestration. Very refreshing!

Agreed. Although I rarely listen to big and boisterous, symphonic film music anymore, I still have a soft spot for those scores from my formative years in the 90s. So if this can capture some of that -- and they certainly have the composer team to pull it off -- then I'm very intrigued.

Purely out of curiosity borne of your intriguing comment, Thor, I have to ask you, please: What sort of music, film or otherwise, do you now listen to in lieu of boisterous symphonic stuff?

I know I'm gonna get hell for this but I find the theme rather generic. It's okay but doesn't really stand out or sound iconic.
