First thought on seeing the thread title: The Beach Boys
LOL!
As per the topic, there is often great stuff in shorts (he, he). I attended the Norwegian short film festival a couple of months back, and I particularly enjoyed Jonathan Sigsworth's score for Niels Windfeldt's exceptional short film RISING WATER. Very Max Richter-y. Can be viewed in its entirety here: https://vimeo.com/347475575 . Highly recommended, it's only 5 minutes! Beautiful tableaux in the style of Malick/Kubrick/Scott.
I also recommend this album from MovieScore Media that highlights a few shorts -- perhaps in the more traditional vein, but still some gems:
I posted this link in another thread, but to provide it again here seems appropriate, given the subject heading - the short film "Light, Strong and Beautiful" from 1974, with music by Elmer Bernstein -
Edit: just saw your other posts in "Music for Shorts". Yes, the score is wonderful.
Another tidbit: you may have noticed the logo in the upper left corner of the clip posted. That is the National Film Board of Canada/L'Office national du film (ONF). It is a government funded agency set up to promote Canadian film culture (yes, we are a near socialistic country, even if we like to pretend we are not wink ).
Replying to Advise and Consent:
Yes, and some nice subtle writing for a small orchestra. I'm terribly impressed, and looking over his filmography.
I remember the NFB, I think, from watching "The International Animation Festival" on PBS back in the 70's. Gosh but that was a nice show, all animated shorts.

Haha! Yes. One of the few benefits to show for being a near "socialistic"country.
The NFB has produced many, many an enjoyable film over the past few decades. Why just last week I caught a 70's québecois film "La Gammick" (that's more or less québecois french for the" the schemers") which sported an absolutely kick ass Schifrin-esque score by François Dompierre.
