I'm well into my 70s now and I've been collecting soundtracks for over 50 years so I've got a lot and many have not been played in 30 or so years. So at the behest (alright 'threat' ) of my wife I've decided tho reduce my collection down to around 250 of my most cherished LPs and CDs. So I'm now beginning to list all those that I simply cannot do without. And at least I can play each one at least once a year. Most of my 'holy grails' have been released or re-recorded and I've signed up for James Fitzpatricks "King of Kings" and that will probably be the last. What to do with the rest? I don't know I've never sold anything on eBay before but I'm sure there are places out there that would take them. But it's the making of damn lists that I hate. Anyway it's been a grand life, if frustrating sometimes , and I don't want to "shuffle off this mortal coil" and leave my wife saying " What the f*** am I going to do with all this shit". Cheers!!!!

If you're in the USA Screen Archives buys collections - you can always email them, or post your list on the trading post here. CDs are easier to sell online than LPs.
If you've got a lot of LPs, an online classifieds ad might do the trick.
Get book that appraises them. Try selling the high value items here on trading post. The common stuff donate to library. Anyway it's what i'd do. Best of luck Alex

It's your life but I wouldn't get rid of my collection because my loved one didn't appreciation my hobby or love of music. What does she do with your collection after you're dead? Chuck it in the trash. Problem solved.

I am 40 yrs old and still a newbie (less than 10 years) collector. I have trimmed my collection down to about 150. This is the same issue I ponder every time I buy a new soundtrack. Will I have time to listen to it, is the new expansion worth the money, do I need the extra music, and will I get my money back if I dont like it? The part about being in this interest is you will never fully get all your money back unless you have some good rare gems someone really wants. The commons I would box up and sell them in bulk to a company that buys used music, at least you can get some cash back. The specialty labels, place them on this trading post site and shoot out prices. If no one bites, then do some bundle deals. Again, any offer is better than throwing them away for nothing. Good Luck. I'm not a copyright lawyer, so you will have to research it for yourself. That's the "agreement" when you buy the license. You can make back ups as long as you don't sell the original.

Thank you , guys for all your advice and help but there are other factors behind my decision to quit this hobby. Cost. Thanks to US postal service and Royal Mail and HM Revenue and Customs I don't think I can afford to buy in any quantity that I used too. So it's a good job I've already got the box sets of Spartacus, FSM Miklos Rozsa treasury, Ben Hur, Elmer Bernstein FilmMusic Collection. I couldn't afford the postage and Customs charges now. And Brexit . I don't how this will affect any buying options from European suppliers (I voted to leave) and finally today's films and scores fill me with apathy. I haven't seen anything decent at the cinema for a while and today's composers just don't seem to have it . I really miss the films with proper Main Titles and plots that develop and evolve and scores that allow the composer to build up tension and character. And finally actors that can really act.
As for disposing of my collection I live in the UK so my options are seemingly limited.
But Stovey - you still have to buy the Tadlow CURSE OF FRANK/ (HORROR OF) DRAC re-recording! Because of James Fitz's serious condition (although I gather he is working again, against doctors' orders) this may not now be out in time for Halloween, but I'm sure when it does appear, you can find room for it among your top 250. And it won't be that expensive, as it's a Brit-based company.

I thought about this a lot last weekend when I had to box up my entire collection (not to mention the rest of the basement) and move it all upstairs in the face of Hurricane Florence. Ideally I'd like to back it all up but I'm definitely more strongly considering putting every CD in booklets and ditching the cases.
As for when I shift off this mortal coil, these are mine until I die and when I'm gone anyone can have them or no one can have them.
