What a sad day, but I supposed if he's stopping, then it means he knows it's time for some reason or another.

Has he not made this same pronouncement before, only to come back?

With an ouevre 3 or 4 times the size of most other film composers, we can hardly whinge if he stops considering all the music available to us from his pen!! It was a remarkable thing that he was still working and if it means he will write say 2 more brilliant projects for tornatore considering what their previous collaborations have brought us, im thrilled at that prospect. Lately we have had italian rai projects that dont make a CD anyway so him taking longer over tornatore films is kinda great news.

What a sad day, but I supposed if he's stopping, then it means he knows it's time for some reason or another. He's explaining that there are too many constraints when working for the cinema. For a man of his age, I can easily understand it. Yeah, but exactly what new constraints has he experienced that he hasn't experienced for the last decade? I think there's something else behind this move.

It says quite a lot about Morricone's stature, talent, and versatility that at his age he is able to step back and decline offers. Most composers his age have already fallen out of favor. Look what happened in the sixties with composers like Waxman, Herrmann, Newman, Friedhofer, and Steiner getting fewer and fewer offers.

Geez, I hope people don't expect me to still be working at 90.

Geez, I hope people don't expect me to still be working at 90. Well, of course most of us don't, but he's the one saying he'll still score films by one guy, so he's still going. And who knows -- if things hadn't apparently changed over night in some mystery unexplained way, he'd still be scoring films for anybody, so apparently he's a feisty old shoe. Age didn't stop Russ Garcia from flying around the world and doing events, death did.

I have a feeling Morricone will be scoring all the superhero films that Zimmer says NO to since his promise to do no more superhero films.
