Very excited for this! One of Zimmer's most distinctive scores.

I really hope it has the orchestral version of the Melanesian chant that was used in the trailer, it's a staggeringly gorgeous theme, and it's not on the original CD. The chant itself is on the second chants CD, but the orchestral arrangement is breathtaking.

You mean this one, James?

I, too, hope that it could be included! (BTW - it was arranged by Klaus Badelt and could be heard on a promotional CD of his earlier music, before he branched out on his own. Sorry to be a hair-splitter...vee Tchermanns ah like zat! wink)

Wow! I never knew it was released anywhere. I knew a LOT of people worked with Zimmer on that score, and he was pretty good about crediting them on the liner notes for the album, at least for the tracks that were included on it.

I remember seeing the trailer and falling in love with that theme, and assuming it would be the main theme in the score, and then being surprised that it wasn't really a major theme in the score and wasn't on the CD at all. I'll seriously buy this set for that cue alone, been wanting it for 20 years. smile

I still think that trailer is one of the best I've ever seen:

Really interested in seeing the tracklist for this and learning more about it.
This should be yet another amazing release from LLL.

Roll on Tuesday......

One of my holy grails. Very excited for this release and never thought in a million years this was something that would actually come out. I can't wait to hear the other variations of Journey To The Line (hopefully including the film mix) along with the other fantastic and complex themes that he wrote for this movie.

IIRC, Malick had long conversations with Zimmer about the music during pre-production and had Zimmer write music to be played over the loudspeakers for actors while filming. I wonder if any of that or demos will be part of this.

Can't wait. Day One purchase.

Well, I'm just scratching my head. The original CD is fine as it is. But I believe there was a "Vol. 2" of this, wasn't there (with more local songs from the region)? I'm guessing that's part of the package?

You are correct.4 and 5 below.

Possible play list:

Two orchestral arrangements of chants
Orchestral arr of Faure In Paradise
Unused Zimmer score
OSt remastered
Melanesian Chants remastered. ..maybe?
Unused John Powell score?
Classical pieces such as Faure and Ives?

This is another of the many brief but beautiful cues that I believe were never released. I'm hoping it gets included this time around.

I can't wait until Tuesday when the usual bitching and moaning about not getting what you all have built up to expect happens.

4 CDs seems about right. The film score alone is 2 CDs worth alone plus the Melanesian choir tracks as well as a ton of unused cues and alternates. Another reason it is probably so long is because the movie had many cuts to it before it was finally released. Supposedly the original cut was 6 hours long! So I am guessing the last few cuts of the movie before the final cut was made but after the movie had been initially scored, were probably really long still.

Glad this is finally coming out though! This is definitely one of Zimmer's finest scores.

Enthusiasm over a Hans Zimmer work on this board is rare to come by. I take it this title must be special to many.

I take it that some development occurred behind the scenes since the last time MV spoke of LLLR's Hans Zimmer projects. Back then it seemed unclear if LLLR was going to do more Zimmer sets - some talk of "Mr. Zimmer doesn't want it released" and all.

This one here is massive and no doubt had Zimmer's blessing. If the composer greenlit this one, I hope this means he changes/changed his mind over releasing an expanded set for this score's sibling, The Last Samurai, which MV once said was a no go because Zimmer didn't want it happening.

Zimmer always produces cds that flow from track to track.
Makes for a great listening experience- albeit a difficult one to reprogram.
Hopefully this release wont just be a " recordin session" style production.

I just went to their site to read more on this exciting news when I was distracted by an announcement that Nick Redman had died.

Sad news.

Indeed, and he does it well. His music is designed like that, and a mere chronological track arrangement wouldn't do justice to his music. I sure hope this 4CD set will "flow"; the original album was great, I just always knew there was a lot more music and wished for it to be released. I'm looking forward to the track listing; this may well be Hans Zimmer's finest score.
