Just a word of warning to anyone considering ordering from Elite Soundtracks: don't.

When I learned last week that Intrada's Jaws release was sold out, I hunted around for a copy. I found one on ebay being sold by Elite Soundtracks. The description listed all the tracks on the sold-out Intrada release. I assumed the seller had the CD in stock. Two days ago the estimated delivery date for the CD had passed. I hadn't received the CD. In fact, according to my ebay account, the CD hadn't even been posted. I contacted Elite Soundtracks about this and received the following reply:

Morning, I do apologise for the delay, as stock was due to arrive last Thursday but had been delayed by Intrada because of repressing more stock and wasn't made aware of. However I was informed yesterday that they would expect to ship shortly as its apparently having a repressing with all new material so will either receive the previous edition or the new edition. Soon as they arrive I will ship same day, many apologies for the inconvenience.

That reply sounds like a load of crap to me because, as far as I am aware, Intrada have not yet officially announced a reissue of Jaws. I've contacted Elite Soundtracks and asked them to clarify what CD (if any) I will be receiving. I've said that unless I receive the CD as listed in their description then I want a cancellation as they will have sold an 'item not as described'.

Elite Soundtracks also have a copy of Jaws for sale on Discogs, but I presume that copy is also not actually in stock either. Having looked at the CDs being sold by Elite Soundtracks on ebay, I came across a 2 CD release of Supergirl. That must surely be a bootleg, as the score from the film has never been released as 2 CDs, has it? So, basically, Elite Soundtracks sell bootleg CDs, and sell CDs that they don't actually have in stock. To sum up, avoid buying from Elite Soundtracks, whether it's on ebay, Discogs, or anywhere else. You may be OK buying CDs from them that aren't out of print, but I wouldn't risk it myself.

Quote: The Jaws 2CD set is currently sold out but will likely be re-issued at some point with a slightly different program.

Their website also has a two disc unmentionable of Air Force One.

That is true, but Intrada have not officially announced a reissue of the Jaws CD, let alone a release date. So, as I said in my previous post, the reply I received from Elite Soundtracks is a load of crap. They were claiming that Intrada will be repressing and reissuing Jaws shortly. That is untrue. And Elite Soundtracks are flouting ebay's rules by selling items they don't have in stock.

This seller frequently advertises soundtracks he does not have in stock, and he orders them in after the fact. Also sells plenty of bootlegs too. He also blocks your Ebay account if you query non delivery of items after waiting too long. How he’s still in business I really don’t know - this forum is full of complaints about Elite.

Is this online shop linked in any way to the old Cinema Store that used to be in London, just off Shaftsbury Ave/ near theatre land?

Thank you for the warning.
You can and should open a case with eBay against this vendor. I have successfully gotten an unscrupulous seller band from eBay.
The beauty of eBay is that you’re money is always protected.

Best wishes

Robert

I thought Ebay rules were sellers had to have the product "in stock" or "in hand" in order to place a listing?

Agree with Robert. This is a growing issue that extends far beyond soundtrack CDs. There is an entire population of eBay sellers who don't actually have the items they advertise in stock. Many of them simply order the item from Amazon and ship it to you after you place your order with them first. There's a technical term for this practice which I don't recall, but it is specifically against eBay policy and they have told me that they want to hear about these kinds of cases. I would file a complaint.

Before we all start reporting this guy, let's see if my copy of IT'S ALIVE shows up first.

Oh yeah. I tried to buy Matrix Revolutions from him a while ago. Didn't actually have any in stock despite advertising it and absolutely had no idea it went out of print. It was like a month before I got my money back. Won't buy from him again!

I couldn't care less about this seller blocking me, as I won't be ordering from him again. The question is whether he will refund me willingly, or I'll have to raise a claim for a refund with ebay/Paypal. I'll have to do it within the next few weeks though as there is the 30 day ebay money back guarantee thing.

I think that's what's known as 'dropshipping'.

I've looked at the Elite Soundtracks website, and the 2 CD Jaws release is listed as 'out of stock'. So there's some honesty there at least.

Didn't someone from Intrada say that if the score is reissued, it will be the same minus the six source tracks? Well, I've been able to find those six source tracks on Youtube, and so if the reissue omits those tracks it'll be no great loss. To be frank, Intrada should leave the original album off the reissue, and reissue the score as just one CD. Doesn't virtually everyone already own the original Jaws album in some form?

I had an issue with Moviemars on Ebay. I bought the soundtrack to X-Men: Days of Future Past for $7.49. Said it shipped and I never received it and they said it was the last one so they refunded me my money. I went back and checked out what they were selling a week later and there it was for $25. Shady.

I issued a complaint with Ebay after he ignored my messages, and then got refunded almost immediately.

"Allyourmusic" is similar - when there's promotions like buy 3 you get 15 or 20% off - they come back mailing out of stock it was loaded with cheap titles when ordered, fishy. I normally buy 6 too 12 I still get that %. i'm happy to say nout & keep purchasing there's great-deals on US - UK - Euro & Jap scores.

On the whole you should try to avoid any website that sells bootlegs. There are a number of websites to find things, including making a post here in the Trading Post.
