And it's perfect for a jumping rope workout.

Mancini debuting the theme plus more:

If it didn't exist, my choice would surely be MOON RIVER, but that one always makes me cry.

TV show: NBC Mystery Movie

Film: tie between The Great Mouse Detective and Charade

I think I like "Charade" the best. The zippy main title, not the mushy song.

But good lord, what a tough assignment to isolate one.

Toss up between Lifeforce and Silver Streak. Both very different, both great.

Can't name one, but did get it down to these six.

CHARADE (original film opening, likely inspired JG's "Our Man Flint" MT)
SOLDIER IN THE RAIN
WAIT UNTIL DARK
CURIOSITY SHOP (ABC, 1971)
THE THORN BIRDS
TOM'S THEME ("The Glass Menagerie")

Hard to beat the first one I ever heard, over and over in its various sequels and cartoons before the Main Feature.

The Pink Panther theme.

In fact, if you haven't seen them, Turner Classic Movies is showing 5 of them on Dec.10th.

After that, Two For the Road is amazing. It is his standard that other artists like Dave Grusin perform.

Next, something a bit more obscure. The "Theme For The Losers" from his Visions of Eight soundtrack. It runs just over 5 minutes and it's a beauty.

TWO FOR THE ROAD. Romantic and nostalgic.

Mr. Lucky, Hatari!, Charade, Silver Streak, Victor/Victoria, Lifeforce (hard to choose only one).

TWO FOR THE ROAD

As much as I've enjoyed many of his jazzier themes, and loved Charade Main title for most of my life (that was one of the first tracks I recorded from the radio in about 1970/71 when I had my first cassette recorder - a Decca portable) ...

... as I've aged I moved over to his more melodic/romantic works and these days I think it's a choice between Two for the Road - main theme and Whistling Away the Dark from Darling Lili.

Wow, difficult question. He has so many good ones. I'll have to think about it for a while.
