IMPORTANT: Based on our previous ones these concerts WILL sell out pretty quickly so please buy your tickets earlier rather than later.
For those who have not attended our previous concerts, these were conceived by me over a lifetime of film music concert going. The emphasis is on the music I NEVER ever heard done by the composers themselves or anyone else. We include iconic Elmer Bernstein material like TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN, THE GREAT ESCAPE, GHOSTBUSTERS and TRUE GRIT. But while we have you here we will explore scores that no one has ever played including WHERE’S JACK, ROBOT MONSTER, GOLD, THE HALLELUJAH TRAIL, I LOVE YOU ALICE B TOKLAS, HUD and many more. What’s even more extraordinary is the caliber of performers who have come to play at these concerts. Starting with our new music director William Malpede who has been working overtime on these orchestrations because he not only idolized Elmer Bernstein, Elmer was his mentor. Elmer taught him at USC so it is literally a labor of love for him. As it is for everyone onstage this time. Some of these performers have come from performing on the world’s largest stages including our three ladies Sara Andon, Nathalie Bonin and Circe Diaz Gamero. Quite a few are composers themselves like Nathalie . In fact our good friend, composer and oldest veteran Bruce Kimmel has put his Kritzerland overlay on the proceedings by polishing it up, and providing interesting background and his special humor to every piece.
If you want recommendations simply ask ANYONE who attended the Morricone including the wonderful people at Lalaland. Strangers who attended last year have stopped me on the street to praise it to the skies and ask when we are doing the next one.
Because the Autry is using this concert to determine whether the success of these programs are uniform for all composers and not just for a specific one they are doing something beneficial to customers but not necessarily the artists. Our spectacular Morricone concert had $20 tickets which really didn’t cover the costs of that concert. Now, for the last time, they are keeping the prices the same to make a comparison even though this concert is way more ambitious.
So again at these prices tickets will sell quickly and buy as soon as you can. The last concert there were quite a lot of unhappy campers who did not think it would sell out and were left out in the cold.

Getting tickets sold basically helps guarantee we can continue these with the unheralded and unplayed works of other great composers.

I like Chrobb's suggestion about including some of Elmer's TV work, especially since you're planning to present some not-overly-famiiiar Bernsteiniana. I myself was thinking it would be nice to have at least one piece from G.E.THEATER. (There's a lot of wonderful stuff he wrote for G.E. which there wasn't room to include on the G. E THEATER LP.) Of course, some of his TV material wasn't exacty "unfamiliar." Who hasn't heard his theme from those Public Broadcasting National Geographic documentaries?
Overall, I'm thrilled about the whole gestalt. The Autry Morricone concert was outstanding in every way, and I couldn't ask for a more exciting follow-up than this tribute/sampling of the Magnificent Elmer.

I truly would love to be there, but I'm over 2,000 miles away. I wish the very best for all concerned with this concert.
And I live about 8.500 kilometers away (or about 5300 miles)! So no chance. But it looks like a concert I would definitely have attended. Bernstein doesn't often get full concerts like these, and it's so refreshing with an old-school concert rather than those live-to-film thingies. And especially cool that it's not just a 'greatest hits' concert.
Thank you, Thor! You put it into a nutshell. Too many (not all) of the to-film concerts I have attended have put the music where it usually dwells, behind the screen and behind the movie. Also the majority of what we will be playing has seldom or never been played before in concert. Even by Elmer. Our music director William Malpede, who was Elmer's student and a lifelong fan, had never heard some of these pieces. Watching him be astonished at all this "new" music, and what he can do with it, was worth all the problems we have been beset with. Indeed sitting in the audience last year at the Morricone concert I said to myself "this audience and I may be listening to the only time some of these pieces will EVER be heard in concert". Which made me feel humble.
Of course the goal here is to change all that.

A project well worth continuing. Would have loved to hear MARIE WARD in concert, for example. Over the last decade or so, this has quickly rocketed to be one of my alltime Bernstein favourites, and while relatively known, still not on the level of MAG 7, GREAT ESCAPE, GHOSTBUSTERS, MOCKINGBIRD etc.
Not to derail your thread, but Nils (who you know) has managed to program a concert of John Williams music next year here in Oslo (with his marching band -- one of Norway's best -- accompanied by choir and renowned soloists), which I will be hosting. In addition to the 'hits', there are the world concert premieres of two rare JW pieces that you'll never see in any 'mainstream' Williams concert. So a similar philosophy to this Autry concept you speak of. Wish there were more of that around the world.
