La-La Land Records, Universal Pictures, Universal Music Special Markets and Geffen Records celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the 1990 motion picture DARKMAN with a remastered and expanded 2-CD presentation of renowned composer Danny Elfman’s (BATMAN, BATMAN RETURNS,MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE) original score. This beloved sci-fi/horror/action hybrid starring Liam Neeson, Frances McDormand and Larry Drake, and directed by Sam Raimi, marked the first collaboration between Raimi and composer Elfman – a union that would continue to flourish, resulting in such notable scores as A SIMPLE PLAN, SPIDER-MAN, SPIDER-MAN 2, and OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL.

DARKMAN finds Elfman in the period following his immortal, breakthrough BATMAN score, and here, he unleashes another gothic and expressionistic orchestral wonder – a tragic, haunting, brooding and darkly romantic musical deep dive that is rich in theme and brimming with classic film score motifs.

DISC 1 of this anniversary presentation features the original 1990 soundtrack assembly, while DISC 2 finally unleashes the expanded film score in all of its might!

Produced by Mike Matessino and Neil S. Bulk, and mastered by Matessino, this limited edition release of 3000 units features a bounty of previously unreleased music. The release’s exclusive, in-depth liner notes are by writer Daniel Schweiger and the robust art direction is by Dan Goldwasser.

La-La Land Records and 20th Century Fox proudly present the remastered and expanded re-issue of renowned composer David Newman’s (THE WAR OF THE ROSES, GALAXY QUEST, THE SANDLOT) original motion picture score to the 1992 historical dramatic epic HOFFA, starring Jack Nicholson and Danny DeVito, and directed by DeVito. An important work in composer David Newman’s canon, HOFFA is an orchestral wonder, grand in emotional scope and sweep, evoking and supporting the powerful dramatic waves inherent in this film’s true-story telling of the rise and fall of the U.S. labor movement’s titular hero, Jimmy Hoffa. Lush, romantic and powerful, Newman’s score honors Hoffa’s achievements and ultimate sacrifice, and this new release showcases the music in all its cinematic glory. Produced by Mike Matessino and Neil S. Bulk, and mastered by Matessino, this limited edition release of 2000 units features a running time of more than 30 minutes beyond the original 1993 soundtrack presentation, featuring previously unreleased cues and bonus tracks. Writer Tim Greiving provides the exclusive, in-depth liner notes and the epic art design is by Jim Titus.

Extended AND alternate "Truck Talk" from Hoffa! I don't know why, but the one on the album is one of my favorite cues from my youth.

Listened to samples for all three releases:

"Darkman" = Excellent, classic Elfman

"Hoffa" = Well done top-drawer Newman score, but I think you're better off gauging the score (if you don't know it) by listening to suites on Youtube.

"Pandora" = I bailed on every cue. Nothing there worth hearing again. If I knew in advance it would even sound like this, I'd not have wasted the time sampling it. I can't tell you about the TV show, but I can say there is no way I'm watching a show and having to listen to that scoring.

Is that the cue that underscores the scene where Hoffa helps DeVito's character to replace a flat tire, because if it is, it was also my favorite?

'Twould be nice to complete the 1990 Elfman set. Also, the original album seems to have disappeared completely.

    From the episodes I got to watch (before being superceded by other shows), the score impressed me quite a bit. Never thought it would get a release. Thanks, LaLs!

    Havent seen (or hear about) any of these movies or Pandora.
    But the Pandora samples actually sounds quite interesting. Will check out the show this weekend (I always need to watch the movie/show before enjoying the score, lol) and consider ordering it.
    Almost kinda reminded me of old-school Christophe Beck and his work for Buffy/Angel!

    Maybe I will check out the movies as well. Need some new score obsessions!

    Well, I'm so glad to finally have David Newman's score for HOFFA on album - thanks Lala Land! I remember way back in 1992 when the album was released that I went to my local record store to sample it. At that time, my college town had a record store with a "listening bar", which was so awesome as you could sit and listen to any CD in the store without purchasing it! I have no idea why I didn't buy it and yet the trailer music always stuck with me. That main HOFFA theme is so incredibly rich and moving and its summation in the "End Credits" is worth the price alone.
