Michael Giacchino to Return for ‘Jurassic World: Dominion’

Michael Giacchino has signed on to score the upcoming sci-fi action adventure Jurassic World: Dominion. The film is directed by Colin Trevorrow and stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, Jake Johnson, Omar Sy, Daniella Pineda, Justice Smith, BD Wong and Isabella Sermon and BD Wong who are reprising their roles from the previous Jurassic World and Jurassic Park films. They are joined by new cast members Mamoudou Athie, Dichen Lachman, DeWanda Wise and Scott Haze. No plot details have been announced yet. Trevorrow also wrote the screenplay with Emily Carmichael (Battle at Big Rock, Pacific Rim: Uprising). Frank Marshall (Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Sixth Sense) and Patrick Crowley (The Bourne Identity) are producing the Amblin Entertainment production. Giacchino has previously scored the Trevorrow-directed 2015 Jurassic World movie, as well as the 2018 sequel Fallen Kingdom. He also composed the music for Trevorrow’s last feature The Book of Henry. Jurassic World: Dominion is set to be released on June 11, 2021 by Universal Pictures.

So sad to see Giacchino attached to this, but the projects deserve his (and Trevorrow's) lack of talent, in a way. All the JURASSIC WORLD films have betrayed their legacy, even if they work marginally well as straightforward 'creature features'.

There used to be a time when Jurassic Park scoring assignments was something to get excited about. and that was from JP to JPIII.

I guess I am the only one who enjoyed Giacchino's work on the Jurrassic World films. I say bring it on!

I really loved the first one but the score of the second movie left me cold. I hope Giacchino will return to form for the third picture.

While Giacchino - as most overworked composers - has fallen victim to a "more is more"-approach he still can deliver if the movie allows him to. And for my taste his JP-scores were very enjoyable, more so than his Marvel scores. I'm looking forward to this.

I love Michael Giacchino's work for the first Jurassic World film. Not so much for the second.

Among a sea of so much crap by others so-called composers, I welcome any Giacchino score anytime!

JW, as for score, is okay, the movie was mediocre at best.

Fallen Kingdom, has a far more superior work of Giacchino, it was one of my most played albums in 2018, with Ready Player One, God of War and Cloverfield Paradox. The movie?, terrible.

My faith with Giacchino is good when works with directors who understand music, when he works with Trevorrow or Watts, i don't know why, is music dosen't get much to me, is like 'we want the automatic Giacchino sound and his typical themes'.

I agree with keky and batman&robin. I think the themes in his first score were very good and memorable. The second was ok but nothing memorable (except the auction scene), the new choral theme also left me cold.
Hope he delivers a great score for the 3rd movie (and that the movie is good).

Aside for the Indominus' theme, almost entirely the themes from the first JW are tonally the same themes from the original JP.

Where the Williams' themes are magnificent and works wonderfully in the movie, Giacchino's are weak and bland in the movie, strange, the second one have a more interesting aspects musically, the themes are much better used (Bayona is a much better musically interesting director than Trevorrow) in the movie, if this one is awful.

Altough i keep replaying cues from the first JW (Raptor You Heart Out, Costa Rican Standoff or Jurassic World Suite), Fallen Kingdom is vast superior replaying to me (This Title Makes Me Jurassic, Raiders of the Lost Isla Nublar, March of the Wheatly Cavalcade, Lava Land, Keep Calm and Baryonyx, Jurassic Pillow Talk...)

This is 100% spot on for me as well.

With a cast like that will there be any screen time available for the dinosaurs? Or are all the aging actors the dinosaurs?

Having enjoyed the Jurassic World scores much more than the Jurassic World movies, I'm fine with this.

tbh, I wasn't too keen on his first JW score, but that's mainly due to the three masterpieces Giacchino had already dropped that year. A pretty good score, nonetheless.

Much like, IMO, the films, FK was a great improvement (A haunted house movie with dinosaurs...and people have the nerve to complain that Hollywood has no originality left). The 'Fallen Kingdom' theme itself is, for lack of a better expression, f**king gorgeous.

The theme might not appear in Dominion, but if the score sounds stylistically similar, it's already one of my favorites of next year.

A haunted house movie with dinosaurs...

Think about what you just said there.

Especially, destroying the JP legacy in a worthless movie (with terrible characters, and awful twists), but, i will said this, the VFX are much better this time.

To buck the naysayers, I enjoy MGs Jurassic World scores too.
I listen to them quite often and they're always a blast.
They are both whittled editions, probably excising 20 to 30 minutes to bring them into a tight 40-50 minute programme.
And if pushed, I'd say Fallen Kingdom is better the JW1. I like the gothic horror feel to it.

Is a much better score, IMHO
