It's now (or will be tomorrow) five years since James Horner's death. I still feel the loss from my film music interest.
Today, as it's Sunday and I can listen freely to music away from work, I've started with Krull. Field of Dreams will make an appearance at some point, amongst whatever else I feel I want to play.
I didn't realize the date but I started this morning with Wolfen. Playing a little Grim Dawn over coffee I wanted some horror, but nothing too pushy - something smooth; something level-headed but emotive, qualities which usually lead me to the Horner stack. And it worked perfectly.
I played LLLs BRAVEHEART & SEARCHING FOR BOBBY FISCHER Friday and yesterday, unaware of the anniversary. But then I will listen to an old Horner soundtrack on any given day in general.
We all have a relatively limited time on this earth. The best we can hope for is to leave something of a legacy behind and that's exactly what Horner did with his music, which is enjoyed and valued continually.

I have this playlist that I call "The James Horner Radio Show." It's a list of cues I'd play if I had a James Horner slot (maybe 2 hours) where I play his music and talk about his work. I make sure I play it every year on this date. Like Solium, I was crushed by his death, more moved by his passing than any other celebrity. He formed my love of film scores and I will always love the rich tapestry he created.
I miss him too. But, he was not 'taken from us" he was endeavoring in dangerous maneuvers that he did not execute safely. He loved a dangerous hobby. I am sure that he very much enjoyed his flying, but if he had not flown that day, or he was a more expert pilot he would still be composing today.
