Music from iconic 80s animated series, G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, will be available for the first time ever on vinyl. The first official release of the score in any format, it includes the instrumental version of the iconic theme song and over 40 minutes of unreleased music from the original composers, Robert J. Walsh and Johnny Douglas. The album features music from the first five-part G.I. JOE mini-series which debuted in 1983 and Season 1 of the animated series which premiered in 1985.

Yes, vinyl release!
I was so worried that this animation classic music could be ruined by CD release.

Excellent news. Like Transformers, unfortunate that it's only on vinyl. I'd prefer a CD. What do we know about this Hasbro label? Anyone?

Perhaps a few messages to them about CDs wouldn't go amiss.

Was GI Joe a 12" action figure at this point, or had they already shrunk him down?

Wasn’t LLL looking into releasing this on CD several years back?

In the 80s GI Joe was an organization, not a person. And they were 6”. Although they did release a few 12” versions of these action figures in the 90s but the weren’t the same as the original 12” G.I. Joe action figures.

Thanks. I would want music only for the 12" version, so I can happily pass on this.

Yeah, screw the music, bring on 12" Joe himself on vinyl!

Intrada released Transformers The Movie on CD. Rights owner SONY Music.
Wouldn´t it possible for Intrada released also Transformers & G.I. Joe TV series music on CD?
Don´t know if music rights belongs to SONY or solely to HASBRO.

Hasbro.

MV of LLL made things pretty clear in 2018, after Enjoy The Ride Records released Transformers on vinyl:

"We are currently not working on a transformers release nor do I forsee one in the future. No one at the studios or labels care about cds any more. To them its dead. The only physical product they want to focus on is vinyl. We had to make a deal recently where we had to agree to do a vinyl pressing in order to get the rights for a CD release. They say it's hard out there being a pimp, but I think it's even harder being a soundtrack producer who only wants to focus on CD releases."

Sorry, but Hasbro lost me when G.I. Joe was turned into a 101-plastic-army-men figure. Even if the music is great, it is ruined for me.

Thank you for clarifying this situation
LLL´s DC animation scores are my treasure CD releases and I still can´t understand this current vinyl dominancy.

If only there was not need to do so much exercise to manage LPs collection and gramophone.
Because with small & easy portable CD and with device which use laser for reading music without harm to medium it is too much simple.smile
It is easier to get things complicated than simplified.

Off topic:
I was thinking about buying gramophone only for Transformes LP release, but I found thread where is mentioned that it is not complete release and also there are some shortening of tracks.
Hope this would not be G.I. Joe case.

This would be nice kickstarter/indigogo project for Transformers & G.I. Joe TV animation scores CD release.
Any labels interested? smile

Heavens to Betsy!! What a thing to worry about.

Really, I don't know if I should purchase it, if it's only on vinyl. CD's are much easier for me. Vinyl is big for some collectors, but CD is something I can handle with the least amount of stress.

Well, this is indeed super exciting news! Johnny Douglas' music for those initial two mini-series is fantastic, so this is an instant buy for me.

This site lists 37 tracks but a 40 minute length which can't be right.

Hasbro has an exclusive deal with Sony Music. I had a great relationship with Robert. We spent time trying to get the rights to this and his other Hasbrouck owned music. I can say that nobody wanted to sublicense this. I believe Hasbro has to approve anything to do with the music in regards to other labels outside of Sony.

Sure it can! The recent LP release of music from The Transformers from Enjoy The Ride was 45 minutes and about 40 tracks, if I recall. Some of the cues were under a minute in length.

Transformers wasn't complete, because a lot of music was originally from G.I. Joe. Besides, Transformers has a lot of score tracks, which would never fit on one cd or record.

Tracks aren't shortened as far as I know. In the show a lot of music was pasted and cut, so perhaps that's where the confusion comes from.
