It's that time of year again and unless I missed it, there isn't a thread dedicated to spooky scores for this All Hallow's Ween season. We've had a few new and expanded releases this year in the horror/suspense category so it would be interesting to hear from folks who have those news scores in their collection but the classics are always welcome For my part, I have a playlist that I've been working on for the past month or so that I plan to listen to throughout the day on the 31st. This year I've been favoring lighter spooky stuff (The 'Burbs, Something Wicked This Way Comes, The Haunted Mansion, Witches of Eastwick, Death Becomes Her, Ghostbusters) so my playlist is heavy on that kind of stuff--lot's of cheesy organs and disembodied female choirs. So let's hear it, what's your go to for the scary season??

For this month, I’ve played a mix of some of the usual suspects (King Kong, Bride, Jaws, Williams’s Dracula, etc.) and some scores for films that aren’t really horror but have elements of it like Herrmann’s Jane Eyre and The Black Cauldron. Some of the music in Snow White for the Queen (especially Magic Mirror and A Special Sort of Death) also have a bit of a creepy vibe appropriate for Halloween. In terms of non-score selections, Night on Bald Mountain and In the Hall of the Mountain King are played as can be expected, but pieces like Tchaikovsky’s Francesca da Rimini and Prokofiev’s 3rd Symphony have also become favorites for me during this time of year.

I’ve been playing: Poltergeist The Thing (1982) Bram Stoker’s Dracula Dracula (1979) The Omen The Final Conflict And the following concert works Miraculous Mandarin Prokofiev’s Symphony 3 - the Fiery Angel Varese Arcana and Ameriques (just because they influenced quite a few horror film scores) Humphrey Searle’s symphonies (The Haunting soundtrack sadly does not exist)

For me the perfect spooky Halloween scores are Goldsmith's Warlock and Sarde's Ghost Story. I LOVE Ghost Story and totally forgot about it--will be giving the wonderful Quartet version a spin this evening and maybe pair it with a nice port wine and some HP Lovecraft

Cycling through most of these: Impressive lineup, especially with that Joe Hill in there for a little extra creepy.

I've been listening to Rick Wakeman's "The Burning" Tim Krog's "The Boogey Man" Goblin's "Contamination" and "Buio Omega" and the score to "Room 237" several times over the last week.
