TREMORS: LIMITED EDITION LLLCD 1551
Universal Pictures Film Music Classics Collection
Music by Ernest Troost
Additional Music by Robert Folk
Limited Edition of 3000 Units
RETAIL PRICE: $24.98
La-La Land Records and Universal Studios proudly present the eleventh title within the acclaimed Universal Pictures Film Music Classics Collection – TREMORS: LIMITED EDITION, music by Ernest Troost (DEAD HEAT, ONE MAN’S HERO) and additional music by Robert Folk (POLICE ACADEMY, CAN’T BUY ME LOVE, TOY SOLDIERS). This limited edition CD release of the original motion picture score to 1990’s beloved, big-screen, horror-sci-fi-comedy hit TREMORS, starring Kevin Bacon, Fred Ward and Michael Gross, and directed by Ron Underwood, marks the film’s 30th Anniversary and is the first official debut of the score in any format!
Composers Troost and Folk unleash a wildly playful and thrilling musical assault, weaving orchestra, blues and synth into an irresistible soundscape of scares, chills, action, heart and even Americana to propel this tale of a courageous band of dusty locals forced to defend themselves against an onslaught of deadly subterranean creatures. The score, much like the film, itself is “Perfection.”
Produced and mastered by Mike Matessino, the work of Ernest Troost is presented on DISC 1, while Robert Folk’s music is showcased on DISC 2. The exclusive, in-depth liner notes are by writer Zach Tow, including new comments from the composers and a note from director Ron Underwood. The rollicking art design is by Dan Goldwasser. TREMORS is limited to 3000 units, so grab yours before the Graboids grab you!

This film is loaded in nostalgia for me. I remember we "screened" it on VHS for the entire class at some point in the early 90s. Our head teacher was rather dismayed, I remember, as she was rather conservative and didn't care for the violence. I saw it up again just last year, and it still holds up. I never checked out the Troost/Folk soundtrack, though -- I believe it was already available on a hard-to-find CD.

The most interesting of the Black Friday releases for me. Definitely going to be paying more attention to the score when I watch the upcoming Arrow 4K release.

I've got the suite of the Robert Folk additional score on the 2CD promo Intrada produced way back when, and Folk's music is tremendous.
Really top-notch horror/adventure scoring with a strong Goldsmith vibe.
Looking forward to having lots more music from the film and broken up for easier access.
I absolutely love the film. It's a modern monster classic.

I saw the movie when it came out in the UK in 1990."Can you fly, sucker?!!!"

I remember renting it a few times. It went down well with the family.
"Baloney, and Beans."
"I did eggs."

Troost's career never really took off after this, did it?

I remember I wrote down his name at the time, as I was exploring film composers left and right, and he remained in my memory. But I never really saw his name again.

He did some other low-budget horror/thrillers (and they got LP releases), but like many, either bad choices or bad luck stopped him stepping up further in film score land.
Maybe the fact the producers of this film had to bring in Robert Folk to bolster and amp things up didn't help?

I'm looking forward to hearing Troost's original takes of Folk re-scored scenes, like Chang Dies and Run For The Rocks. (I never got the Troost promo, only the Folk one).

Great release. However I do have a question for M.V. Have you ever considered Jay Ferguson`s score to the first sequel? Because that score to me is really good (almost as good as the scores to the first one). Of all those scores by Jay Ferguson that I have heard his Tremors 2 is by far his best.

I'm sure if this release sold out within a month or two, Tobias, LLL would be all over a release of the sequel score.
So this one needs to shift some units...and quick!

Cool!!! And the only truly exciting release of the batch...

OK, I'll probably get McCreary as well...

I remember seeing the trailer for this in the theater and thought it looked awful. Saw the film sometime later on cable, probably like most of us and loved it. What a hoot! Don't remember much about the score but this is the BF title that interests me the most. I have it in my iTunes movie library, I'll have to watch it.

My first prediction came true! Not that it was a far stretch of a prediction.

I'd say anything from the Stampede sequels/TV shows is worth visiting in some capacity. After part five it all gets a bit generic and anonymous.

This was a genuine surprise! Even when they set the bar and expectations low, they still manage to put a rabbit out of their hat!

Like others, this movie is pure nostalgia for me too. I remember watching the VHS over and over when I was a kid. The timing is sublime too, seeing as how my card was just charged for my pre-order of the 4K UHD remaster of the movie. smile

This is a definite order for me on Tuesday. The only thing it was lacking...I took care of that on Amazon Music this morning: Reba McEntire's "Why Not Tonight" which played over the end credits. I always equate the closing shot with that song playing, so I'll be tacking it on to the end of the score.

Question for other members: What exactly is the story with the Robert Folk music? I don't know much about the score and was unaware that there was any rescoring. How exactly would you suggest I assemble my MP3 playlist when I rip the discs?

Underwood and the producers wanted to replace the whole score, but the deadline was too tight (like 2-3 weeks), so Folk just did as much as he could for the scenes they were most desperate for. Folk went uncredited 'cos he didn't want to share a composing credit.

OK, so that means Disc 1 is Troost's original score "as intended"?

If I were to want to build a movie-accurate playlist, I would have to--for example--use Folk's cue "Fred Dies" on Disc 2 in place of Troost's "Fred Dies" on Disc 1, yes? Mind you, I probably won't, but I'm just curious.

BTW, not sure what the filmmakers were thinking...Troost's music was a perfect fit for the movie!
