In 1948 a radio program called "Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar" began. It ran until 1961.
I can't tell you about the whole series, but during the long stretch where Johnny Dollar was voiced by Bob Bailey, it was full of win. Some episodes had original scoring, so I am bringing them up. Any episode I skipped because no composer is credited, I will note and there will be a separate thread in Non-Film Score Discussions to cover.
I will be using a ten-star rating system for each episode. I assure you, the series may start off weak, but just wait for Bailey. This is widely considered one of the best radio shows made.
Cues are short, that is to be expected. Some of you have heard radio programs before and want to claw your eyes out when they go on the cheap and it's just a guy sitting at an organ, assaulting your brain. This show didn't do that, not even in the not for broadcast audition pilot (audition pilot/episodes will have their own separate listing later in the thread).
The series had two or three themes (maybe four, depending on how you want to look at it) and yes, I will be solving the mystery of who did the famous series theme, but I can't just say it here; there's so much info', details, and related points of interest to just do it now. It's a post onto itself!

The Goldsmith Odyssey checked the series pretty thoroughly and it’s pretty certain Jerry didn’t write any original music for the show...but there IS a storyline where a character is named after him!

YTJD is one of my very favorite series.
I think I never made it as far as the 5-a-week's, which I was most interested to hear. Up to where I left off, it was a solid American-radio-style production. Too bad the USA can't muster the talent anymore!
