I am completely blown away by the amazing score for THE LITTLE DRUMER GIRL by the incomparable Cho Young-Wuk. Thank you to Silva Screen for 2 cds worth of fabulous music.
This just topped my previous #1 Gina and Chantal by Joris Hermy. I will post my fave scores at end of moth waiting on my WW84.
Currently working on my top 10 of the year, which will be a podcast that I hope to finish next week (in English). Won't reveal anything untill then.
But Jo Yeong-wook, as I write the name, is probably South Korea's most famous film composer. THE LITTLE DRUMMER GIRL didn't do that much for me, but I'm a big fan of THE HANDMAIDEN and KUNDO: AGE OF THE RAMPANT, in particular. There's also that 'story' that Jo Yeong-wook doesn't write all of his own scores, but has a team of co-composers, Zimmer-style. I keep forgetting the specifics of this; maybe some Korea experts can chime in. But the end results are great nonetheless - lyrical, accomplished orchestral writing.
