Ugh. Every time I see and hear something from any new Trek, I just get annoyed, disgusted, and other words. And colorful metaphors may be involved.

Actually, I take that back. I recall having some initially nice things to say about the show I have yet to watch a full episode of: "Lower Decks". I watched some clips and it seemed like it might be worth watching. And one clip on a holodeck featuring some Borg, obviously was a wink and a nod to Ron Jones.

Like The Orville, if you give Lower Decks a chance to grow beyond its initial immaturity, it's just WONDERFUL and is clearly made with a lot of love for the franchise (and by people who know their Trek). The last 2-3 episodes of Lower Decks season 1 are just SO GOOD. And the scoring for the entire series by Chris Westlake is maybe the best Trek TV scoring since Ron Jones.
I love Melumad's work on Medal of Honor and An American Pickle so I'm excited to hear her work on this series if nothing else. I hope it gets released because we Lower Deck fans are still waiting on a release for the excellent scoring of that show.

Lower Decks deserves it's own discussion. It's almost inarguably the best Trek series on right now. I'm watching them all but Mike McMahan's show is the closest in spirit and philosophy to Gene's. It also does a *fantastic* job in taking the piss out of the entire franchise (Sen-SORS?) without losing respect for what Trek stands for.
I quite agree and very well put!
And Justin, I haven't seen the trailer yet but at least this show is likely to produce good music from the very talented Ms. Melumad, which is more than I can say for the live action Star Trek shows at the moment (and I say that as a fan of Jeff Russo's work elsewhere).

Same here. There is nothing about these new series that feels like Star Trek, and I hate that it pretends to be.
Exactly this. It's nothing but a cash cow being squeezed dry. The last Star Trek show I truly enjoyed was Deep Space Nine (unless we're counting The Orville). Voyager and Enterprise have some episodes I like, but the shit nowadays is Star Trek in name only.
As soon as I read the interview where a producer from Discovery literally said they were modeling it after Game of Thrones (a story that couldn't be more the polar opposite of Star Trek if it tried) I knew it was going to be awful. Watching it was even worse than I imagined.
Star Trek was the cutting edge once upon a time. Now it's just another generic TV show where everyone's angsty, the storytelling is what passes for edgy, and they throw in the word "fuck" because they can and that's what's hip now.
Or it's Star Trek by way of Rick and Morty.
At least we have DVDs, Blu-rays, and CDs to enjoy the good stuff.

Have you finished the first season of Lower Decks? You obviously had an open mind with The Orville and this show deserves it too. The last 2-3 episodes of the first season is my favorite Star Trek since, well... Deep Space Nine.

All these Nu-Trek series are garbage. They're not Star Trek at all. This theme song is generic, dull and uninspiring too.
