Here is Giacchino's theme:

Nami Melmud is scoring the individual episodes:

Quote from Michael about the show:

I am excited that I had the opportunity to write the main theme for Kevin and Dan’s latest project, and as always am thrilled to be a part of the Star Trek family.

I’m especially looking forward to everyone hearing the incredible work of composer Nami Melumad, who will take the reins of scoring the episodes. Not only is she extremely talented, she is a true Star Trek fan.

Ugh. Every time I see and hear something from any new Trek, I just get annoyed, disgusted, and other words. And colorful metaphors may be involved.

Same here. There is nothing about these new series that feels like Star Trek, and I hate that it pretends to be.

Actually, I take that back. I recall having some initially nice things to say about the show I have yet to watch a full episode of: "Lower Decks". I watched some clips and it seemed like it might be worth watching. And one clip on a holodeck featuring some Borg, obviously was a wink and a nod to Ron Jones.

I am not afraid of modern Trek music. Honestly, I go around humming Russo's outstanding theme to Star Trek Picard on the regular. And how many themes in modern film music are hummable?!

Controversial opinion ahead:

I saw the Facebook post to watch the credits and listen to the music. The post I saw did not name a composer and just had been put up so there was nothing for me to know who wrote it. My face wrinkled upon starting the opening because all I could think is it sounded like something a high school student would write after laying down a generic drum beat in Garageband.

I come here and see this was by Michael Giacchino and I had to let that process. I thought of all modern composers he was most above writing this kind of basic, inane dreck. A composer of his stature can do far more than this. This isn't just phoned in; this emailed in after 10 minutes of clicking things on a computer. It has "my roast in the oven is burning and I need to tend to it" written all over it.

No, ma'am, next....

Lower Decks has turned into not just one of the best Star Trek shows of all time but one of the best shows I've watched in recent memory. Definitely give it a run. Its a parody of and yet a love letter to all the things that make Star Trek great. The first season takes a few episodes to get going but the final episode of the first season legit left me feeling things (I had no idea how much I'd come to care about the characters). It takes a special show to be laugh out loud funny, a brilliant love letter, AND shockingly emotional all at once.

And there's tons of musical easter eggs. Characters haven't been past whistling Goldsmith's themes in the show. And VERY minor spoiler: there's a point in the last episode of the first season where Goldsmith's TMP theme gets a VERY triumphant statement for reasons that make perfect sense during an incredible moment of the episode.

Like The Orville, if you give Lower Decks a chance to grow beyond its initial immaturity, it's just WONDERFUL and is clearly made with a lot of love for the franchise (and by people who know their Trek). The last 2-3 episodes of Lower Decks season 1 are just SO GOOD. And the scoring for the entire series by Chris Westlake is maybe the best Trek TV scoring since Ron Jones.

I love Melumad's work on Medal of Honor and An American Pickle so I'm excited to hear her work on this series if nothing else. I hope it gets released because we Lower Deck fans are still waiting on a release for the excellent scoring of that show.

Sorry to go off on a tangent, but is there a pre-existing thread for discussion of the score to "Lower Decks"? I'll create one if not. I thought someone might know and therefore save me from searching.

Lower Decks deserves it's own discussion. It's almost inarguably the best Trek series on right now. I'm watching them all but Mike McMahan's show is the closest in spirit and philosophy to Gene's. It also does a *fantastic* job in taking the piss out of the entire franchise (Sen-SORS?) without losing respect for what Trek stands for.
Very much crossing my fingers for Prodigy but I have a very real fear that Trek fatigue will set in. I'd rather they focus on quality in Discovery and Picard than on the seemingly shear quantity of content that's being pumped out.

By the way, here is a cringe-worthy trailer for the show:

If you ever wondered what terrible Star Trek short film that looks like a rejected Star Wars expanded universe project, would look like if written for kids and made into a series, here's some awful looking crap for you.

I quite agree and very well put!

And Justin, I haven't seen the trailer yet but at least this show is likely to produce good music from the very talented Ms. Melumad, which is more than I can say for the live action Star Trek shows at the moment (and I say that as a fan of Jeff Russo's work elsewhere).

Exactly this. It's nothing but a cash cow being squeezed dry. The last Star Trek show I truly enjoyed was Deep Space Nine (unless we're counting The Orville). Voyager and Enterprise have some episodes I like, but the shit nowadays is Star Trek in name only.

As soon as I read the interview where a producer from Discovery literally said they were modeling it after Game of Thrones (a story that couldn't be more the polar opposite of Star Trek if it tried) I knew it was going to be awful. Watching it was even worse than I imagined.

Star Trek was the cutting edge once upon a time. Now it's just another generic TV show where everyone's angsty, the storytelling is what passes for edgy, and they throw in the word "fuck" because they can and that's what's hip now.

Or it's Star Trek by way of Rick and Morty.

At least we have DVDs, Blu-rays, and CDs to enjoy the good stuff.

Have you finished the first season of Lower Decks? You obviously had an open mind with The Orville and this show deserves it too. The last 2-3 episodes of the first season is my favorite Star Trek since, well... Deep Space Nine.

Glad to know my opinion isn't alone. I wrote a negative (but not unconstructive) opinion of what I saw in a discussion thread on the Star Trek Reddit and I got downvoted to filth. Made me wonder if there was something I was missing.

All these Nu-Trek series are garbage. They're not Star Trek at all. This theme song is generic, dull and uninspiring too.

Yeah, let's not expect anything better from our franchise, for our kids, and in regards to something that may well be CANON. No, why do that when we can set the bar low and make excuses for it.

Courage, chaps.
If the Law Of Diminishing Returns has any merit at all, future Trek shows will be so bad that this current crop will seem like gold in comparison.

What are you, a communist? Is that any way to milk an IP for all it's worth?
