I've been listening to a lot of music lately since I'm working from home and by now I've gone through all of my soundtracks.
I've concluded that my absolute favorite has to be the Ben Hur Miklos Rozsa score (the 1991 Sony double CD version which combines the two original vinyl LP's, Ben Hur and More Music From Ben Hur, and adds a couple more tracks). I would take this one with me to a deserted island, if only allowed one soundtrack CD.
Anyone else have a single favorite one and if so, please share with us!
If I go by the one soundtrack I've listened to the most times over the past decade....
It's Tadlow's 2CD set Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome by Maurice Jarre. Spectacular sound quality and it all builds up to the thunderous (sorry) track "The Big Chase". I never tire of it.

Hi Adam! I love the movie and think it's underrated, it's one of my favorites actually. The fight in thunderdome and the end chase is some great filmmaking! And the stuff in between with the children give it some heart.
Great variety. Two main themes--one grim, martial, the other is one of the great bucolic themes of the cinema.
Four choral pieces denoting the change of the seasons, each a gem.
An eerie, nightmarish piece for a plague pit of corpses.
Savage battle music.
A ghostly cue for a witch burning.
A friend of mine unfamiliar with film music heard one of the more brutal cues from this score many years ago and said it sounded like James Bond music from hell. I think he nailed it.

Glad to see some (deserved) praise for Thunderdome. As a lad I didn't much care for Maurice Jarre as a composer, but this was the score that won me over. And to think he followed it up just five months later with Enemy Mine!
These kind of questions keep getting asked in alternate forms…
So… in order not to sound boring.. by saying something as obvious as – “Superman: The Movie” – because that is the greatest score of all time…
In terms of SOUNDTRACK RELEASES… The greatest soundtrack – (in terms of content, and music quality – composition – etc)…
The greatest soundtrack ever released – would be: STAR TREK: THE ORIGINAL SERIES – (1966 – 1969) - CD SOUNDTRACK COLLECTION – THE ULTIMATE RELEASE BY LA-LA LAND RECORDS! The runner up would be:
STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION – THE RON JONES PROJECT – By Film Score Monthly. Those two were the best ever releases… – (in terms of content, and music quality – composition – etc)…
– (if I was to rule out – “Superman: The Music” – THE BLUE BOX – obviously)…
