Have they found new elements or is this, apart from the extra cues, based on the same elements the previous releases like the Silva Screen were mastered from? I suppose had the original recording elements been found they would have made a big deal out of it.

This feels like a BIG release but it seems there is not really that much difference with those who own the Silva release.

Is the original album a rerecording of the film score?

"Pour cette nouvelle édition remastérisée avec soin par Christophe Hénault, le premier CD (intitulé « The Film Score ») propose toute la musique du film et le second disque (intitulé « Remastered Original Soundtrack Album ») reprend le programme de l'album original qui proposait une sélection de morceaux de la bande originale. Cet album comprend également deux morceaux inédits et deux autres morceaux dans des versions alternatives."

"For this new edition carefully remastered by Christophe Hénault, the first CD (entitled "The Film Score") offers all the music of the film and the second disc (entitled "Remastered Original Soundtrack Album") takes up the program of the original album which featured a selection of tracks from the soundtrack. This album also includes two unreleased tracks and two other tracks in alternate versions."

No, there's no rerecording. Just a first light version on LP and cd.

Wow, quelle surprise!

Took the website to accept an order for quite some time - but it worked out in the end!

This is a great release for those who still don't own LEGEND. Having the Silva Screen cd, I don't really have the urgency to get it. Congratulations to Music Box Records on this release!

It's an excellent release and I'm sure it will do very well for MBR.

Alas, the policy that UK buyers have to place a minimum order of 150 euros to be able to place an order, coupled with already having the Silva Screen disc, means I can't justfiy it for myself.

It is, however, an excellent release.

Cheers

I do love this score.
Always have, always will.
I have the old LP, then upgraded to the German CD of it.
I also have the Silva Screen expanded edition, which added so much more great music.
But I love BOTH versions equally (I don't think the original release was a re-recording. Just a brilliantly edited highlights edition).
I'll wait to hear some reports about the sonic upgrade before/if I order a copy from Intrada.
Unlike Thierry, I imagine it will stick around a lot longer.
2000 is more than enough for CD buying soundtrack collectors these days!

It is weird.
Our niche is even nichier than the nichiest niche!!! big grin
I think it's also a combination of things.
A lot of these releases have already been out in various editions.
Many people are content with them.
Then there's the higher costs of postage and customs these days.
And then there's the newer generation of score fan, who don't want CD's, preferring a download or gimmicky LP instead.
We really are the Last of the Dinosaurs, Thierry eek

Totally unexpected...as all reports always said that the original master tapes were lost.

Well, it doesn't say they've been found either, so this could just be a remastered version of the tapes we already have (plus a few extra cues, which of course is nice.)

Kev, it still amazes me, and not in the good way, that from 8 billion plus humans on Earth, there are only a ridiculous 2000 figure of die-hard film music aficionados people to buy such a release....

Thierry, there are lots of film music aficionados around the world, but many of us simply cannot afford to pay for these titles anymore. Stephen mentioned the minimum 150 euro order, which pretty much rules out the UK market. And generally speaking, shipping prices have soared to the point that it's driving collectors away from the hobby. I've long since moved on, but I still enjoy reading the forum.

James Fitzpatrick produced the Silva release and commented on the state of the Legend tapes in 2015 or 2016. For those interested, here's what he had to say:

22/2/2015 "The 76 minute CD I prepared for Silva Screen has every last note of music that was on the tapes stored for safety by engineer Mike Ross....no other tapes exist... the only tapes that exist of LEGEND are the ones I used ... and I used every bit of music on those tapes....and the studio where LEGEND was recorded , Sony/Whifield Street, my favourite London studio to record in, ceased to exist a few years ago ...as did their tape library"
http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=108477&forumID=1&archive=0

22/9/2016 ""the master will NOT get any better as only one source left in existence and that you have...and NO extra tracks for the same reason...count yourself lucky that I rescued from the skip what I could... the only existing tape left from the sessions was a direct to stereo safety mix...."
https://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=111507&forumID=1Topic&archive=0

23/10/2016 "The only surviving tape from the London sessions was the 1630 stereo safety copy of the 72 minutes I mastered for Silva Screen ... all other tapes disappeared when Sony Whitfield Street closed. So you might just have to be content with the 72 minutes that exists as no other source elements exist.... and there certainly will never be a new recording from Tadlow or Prometheus as that type of scores is just impossible to recreate...."
