Filming has recently wrapped.

Set during the golden age of Hollywood and directed by Damien Chazelle.

Musically, a "gold mine" for the highly talented Justin Hurwitz.

Hurwitz recently scored Chazelle's commercial for De’Longhi, starring Brad Pitt.

This is my most anticipated film of '22.

I'm quite taken with Hurwitz's work (less so the Chazzelle films, diminishing returns). First Man is, without a doubt in my mind, one of the strongest and most wonderful scores of the past decade. Really excited for this, and I hope the movie can match the music!

This is my most anticipated film of '22.

Scratch that, me of 10 months ago. This movie looks tiresome and hackneyed.

The still images released a few days ago brought to mind Ken Russell and '70s Fellini, which made me pretty excited for this... but that trailer is very much in the vein of Baz Luhrmann, which is a major downgrade from my initial impression of the imagery from the stills. Major props to the director for even wanting to make a big, expensive, adult-oriented period piece extravaganza, but that trailer is a letdown. I rolled my eyes at the guy yelling "f*ck yeah!" at the end. Of course, you never really know how a film is until it's in front of you, so I don't know, maybe it will work on its own terms. At least the trailer isn't scored with another rip-off of Zimmer's "Inception" 'horn of doom.'

I'll anticipate the score but after watching this trailer I, too, look forward to not watching this movie.

Movie looks very very promising, musical numbers on the horizon...

Had no interest in this movie (love "La La Land" and "Whiplash", though) but after the trailer I'm really looking forward to it. I expecting the great atmosphere of old Hollywood and all that behind it, and of course the rich and huge music work by Justin Hurwitz.

*Slight yawn*.... If you want to see the original watch the excellent German TV series BABYLON BERLIN!

This movie has nothing to do with Babylon Berlin. The movie Babylon is about the tumultuous environment in Hollywood during the shift from silent films to "talkies" and the excess of Hollywood during that period. It is not a Neo-Noir about Berlin during the Weimar Republic.

I wouldn't have guessed that this score would sound like a combination of ska and Goran Bregovic's scores for Emir Kusturica movies. At least it's a novel approach. I'm in agreement with those who think the film itself just looks like another obnoxious Baz Luhrmann movie (though the music suggests, again, Emir Kusturica, so maybe that will be the overriding impression).

Actually, they do look very similar, titles aside.

One of the primary settings of Babylon Berlin (at least the original 16-part miniseries, confusingly branded as Season 1 and Season 2 for contractual reasons) is a decadent night club.

And the series is as much about the wild and debauched private lives of the various characters as it is about the murder mystery and the political elements.

Bablyon Berlin also filters all the period pop music through a modern prism, a bit like Baz Luhrmann did in The Great Gatsby, and like it seems this film will, with modern pop songs played by 1920s bands and other new songs written in the style of the 20s.

Babylon Berlin is very much an impressionistic, stylized version of the 20s, grounded in gorgeous, carefully researched design work.

All of this feels very similar to the new film, regardless of the differences in their geographical setting.

Honestly, when I saw the BABYLON trailer, my first thought truly was "Wow, someone has been watching Babylon Berlin."
