Is this an adaptation of King's novel? the 80s version was pretty bad (except the Tangerine Dream score which I dig).

That’s pretty wild considering he was supposed to direct the original version. Really looking forward to hearing this.

Dissappointing that Tangerine Dream didn't get the gig, but not surprising. At least I hope that Carpenter will use some of TDs themes in the new score.

You mean the Tangerine Dream cover band? lol! That would be weird if he used TD's themes. It wouldn't make any sense.

Welcoming news. Mr Carpenter certainly fits the Composer profile for this one. Original music needed.

It would make GREAT sense. One synth king acknowledging another

I'm not sure I understand. This film is not a follow-up to the other one, right? Just a new adaptation of the book. We don't expect all versions of "Dracula," or "Moby Dick," of even "Dune" to use the same themes. They're their own thing.

Why would you want John Carpenter, the guy who composed the themes for ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13, HALLOWEEN, ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, PRINCE OF DARKNESS, THEY LIVE, to use someone else's themes?

I love Tangerine Dream's score for the original, but I see John Carpenter doing the music, I want to hear John Carpenter's music.

Where are you seeing this? I know the IMDB isn't the be-all end-all, but I didn't see him there. It's great news, though, if it's the case.

Are these guys credible?

Probably seals it.

Carpenter also mentioned it on social media today

Interesting. I didn't even know there was a new adaptation of FIRESTARTER in production. But Carpenter is an inspired choice. Disregarding the recent HALLOWEEN reboots (which stem from Carpenter's own film anyway), when was the last time he scored a film for someone other than himself?

(sigh)

Look, I'm not asking Carpenter to rearrange/adapt TDs score. I'm just saying that it would be neat if he, say, had played a few notes of TD's "Charly The Kid" in a scene or two. Only a few people would notice it anyway.

Carpenter scored of course HALLOWEEN II and HALLOWEEN III, neither of which he directed (and HALLOWEEN III was unrelated to the "Michael Myers" slasher films), but I don't think he ever actually scored a feature movie for somebody else outside of the HALLOWEEN franchise, though I remember an interview (probably from the 80s) where he expressed interest scoring somebody else's film if they asked him.

If so, that makes this an interesting "debut" of sorts.....at 74 years old. wink

Yes, and a somewhat unexpected one. Particularly intriguing as Carpenter was indeed originally to direct the 80s adaptation of FIRESTARTER.

As much as I love TD Firestarter, it seems someone temped it with Alan Parson’s Voyager from Pyramid as it has the same chord changes and rhythmic figures.
