This upcoming release from Sepia looks interesting:

I've loved every one of their Fox musicals series, so I'm hoping these Paramount pre-recordings will sound just as good.

Two questions:

1. Where did these elements come from?

2. Did an instrumental version of the tune "Abraham" from HOLIDAY INN really find its way into the background score for WHITE CHRISTMAS (Track 15)?

Yes! Abraham is the number Vera Ellen dances with John Brascia in her Yellow Turtle Neck Dress!

Yes, that is indeed great news! Musical fans should also have a look on the latest releases in their Mario Lanza series wink

I never understood why Jasmine didn't use that material in their "Going Hollywood" series. There have been many promotional disks for Crosby movies.

"White Christmas" is problematic and isn't diverse enough. They need to change the title to "All the Colors of Christmas".

This is a wonderful set from Sepia. Original Soundtrack from White Christmas with Rosemary Clooney vocals, not The Peggy Lee versions on the original LP. There is also an Outtake of a duet by Bing Crosbyand Danny Kaye called Santa Claus !

Waited nearly 70 years for this !!

Most exciting. I love having the Alice Faye and Betty Grable CD sets, but that's all the Sepia releases I have.

So when I pre-ordered this, had to pick up a few more - Fred Astaire Easy to Dance With, Bing Crosby Holiday in Europe, and the expanded Windjammer Cinerama score. And that will probably be just the beginning.

Thanks for posting this thread!

You're very welcome! I highly recommend these two hugely enjoyable Sepia discs, if you don't have them already of course:

Quite literally gasped when I saw this post and purchased immediately. Have not been this excited about a release in a long time. The lack of a film-accurate soundtrack release for White Christmas has bothered me since I was a kid.

Am I the only one who finds this set a bit suspect? Granted, we all want it and it's incredibly overdue - but I've been hoping for an official release directly from Paramount / Universal or the current owners as opposed to a cobbled together effort which seems like an 'unmentionable'. Am I wrong here? Is this a properly licensed and curated release?

I had the same thought, and I don't know enough to know the difference. This is listed for pre-order at Barnes & Noble, so it's legit enough to get a release from a national retailer in the States. Is that enough?

Of course not! First of all, out of all the labels in all the world, do you think the rights holders would chose Sepia for the premiere release of these scores after 70 years? Second, there is a different rights holder for each score. Universal owns HOLIDAY INN while PARAMOUNT owns WHITE CHRISTMAS. Do you think Sepia got them both to the table to make this co-release deal? In a pig's eye. Just shut up and count your blessings (instead of sheep). smile

Paramount did NOT keep the vocal sessions for thier musicals.
They do not have White christmas, Funny Face etc.

I do certainly prefer playback disks to no disk at all! (no pun intended) (?)

Same here! I think anyone expecting an official release from Paramount of the White Christmas soundtrack is in for an extremely long wait. Providing the playback discs are in good condition this release should be a dream come true for me, and I can't wait to hear the full OST versions of "The Best Things" and "Mandy". Van Cleave's arrangements are superb (assuming he did actually work on those numbers, of course?).

Those of us who belong to International Club Crosby got the word a week or two ago and have been able to order copies from the Club. I'm looking forward to listening to mine when it arrives. Perhaps in the near future there will be a similar release of the pre-recordings from BLUE SKIES, which would include a lot of material not used in the film.

I do have a query, I'm wondering if these are the same disks used on Rosemary Clooney's 'Come On A My House' Box Set
