Wow. 25. Congratulations. This place can make Mos Eisley look friendly sometimes, but even if you have to dodge the odd Walrus man and Hammerhead, there are friends to be made at the bar. Cheers

Always makes you reminisce about where you were at the time, these anniversaries. On December 9, 1997, I had almost finished my degree in English at the University of Oslo. Right in the middle of, or right after, the exam period, probably. I did not have access to any computer rooms at the time, so I logged on via these stations in the university hallways. There was always a line, so I had to be quick about it. Log into filmmusic.com, FSM, Scott Hanson's John Williams page and whatever else I had time for in 20 minutes. I remember being surprised and curious when the messageboard was announced -- I didn't really have any experience with internet messageboards, and never really got into the whole rec.music.movies scene. In January-98, I had to take a break from studies to go into army service for a year (obligatory for all Norwegian males). Fastforward to March or April, and I finally make my first post after lurking for months, logging in via those old modems in the leisure building while doing my daily rounds around camp. Again had to be relatively quick about it, so as not to cause suspicion. I'm fairly certain that the first post was a request for Conti's THE RIGHT STUFF/NORTH & SOUTH, and Gerry Kroll responded. I've been unable to find it on archive.org, but if you find it, Howard, shout out. Would be a nice memento.

Unfortunately, when FSM changed from red to blue and implemented the messageboard style they pretty much have today (late summer or early autumn-98), archive.org can't access the actual messages. Probably because it's three levels down, whereas the earlier "tree format" is just two levels down. So at the present time, we only get 4 snapshots of that 'tree format' time with actual threads displayed. Alas, I can't find myself in any of them, but several other familiar faces that have come, gone or stayed since then. Terry Walstrom, Latham Conger III (our first troll!), Rogerio Ferrari, Chris Kinsinger, Ed Kattak, Loran Allan Davies, Erik Woods, Gustav Joseph, Brian Mellies, Dana Wilcox, Dutch, Guy McKone, Jim Cleveland, Marian Schedenig, Deckard etc. etc. Speaking of Deckard, in a funny coincidence, "Tears in Rain" plays in my Spotify playlist just as I write this. "All these moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain". How fitting.

And to encourage, it's really not getting worse; it's just what it always was. From our Nothing New Under the Sun files, this is the earliest available archived (not his actual earliest) post from Jeff Bond:
