THIEF OF HEARTS (2-CD) Music by Harold Faltermeyer
Limited Edition: 1500 units
Quartet Records, Geffen Records and Paramount Pictures present the premiere release of the complete score by Harold Faltermeyer (BEVERLY HILLS COP, TOP GUN, FLETCH, TANGO AND CASH) for Douglas Day Stewart’s 1984 sexual, romantic drama-thriller THIEF OF HEARTS, starring Steven Bauer, Barbara Williams and John Getz. The film is about a woman trapped in a boring marriage who begins an affair with a handsome man who seems able to read her mind. She doesn't know that he has broken into her house and read her diaries, in which she has recorded her deepest thoughts and fantasies.
Harold Faltermeyer provided an intense, romantic and suspenseful electronic score, varied and rhythmic. The composer also wrote and produced several pop songs for the film, and arranged the original song "Thief of Hearts," composed by Giorgio Moroder and performed by Melissa Manchester, which was a huge hit in its single version.
The popular THIEF OF HEARTS soundtrack album was released by MCA on LP and CD and reissued several times over the years, although in its 40-minute length it included only the five songs and five score cues specifically arranged for the album. This limited 2-CD edition from Quartet Records includes, for the first time, the complete score composed and recorded by Faltermeyer for the film, and also the remastered MCA album, unused cues, demos, and alternate versions of both score and songs. A treat for all fans of 80s synth sound!
Meticulously produced by Dan Goldwasser and mastered by Doug Schwartz, the 20-page full color package includes in-depth liner notes by film music writer Daniel Schweiger.

Nice! Nothing wrong with the 18-minute score selection on the OST, but I'm curious to see if the rest holds up as well, as one singular score album (BEVERLY HILLS COP was a bit hit/miss that way). Will certainly sample it to see.

The first score was indeed a bit repetitive but I thought BHC II played quite nicely in complete form.
Incredible!! A very captivating score. What a great start to the year. This is a complete surprise for me! Didn't expect it to come from QUARTET. Happy to cross this off my personal wish list. Thanks to QUARTET and everyone involved in this event.
Film versions! At long last...and my second favorite Faltermeyer score. This is a completely unexpected treat. Severe appreciation to all those who made this happen! I hope one day to get FLETCH with this sort of care but this OST heroin shot will do quite nicely.

Hello DJS! And what is Faltermeyer's first favorite score?

Hello DJS! And what is Faltermeyer's first favorite score?
I don't know about Harold (lol) but FLETCH is #1 for me. BHC 1&2 and FLETCH LIVES were fantastic treats as well but the full score for FLETCH has been at the top of my HF list for almost 40 years.
THIEF OF HEARTS was my buddy Rocky (Ecchevaria) Bauer's first big break. He went on to play Pacino's sidekick in SCARFACE and has been a powerful presence ever since.
Here we are in WEST SIDE STORY with Ray Liotta and Val (Klemow) Lipson.
PS Rocky (Steven) said he did an interview with Daniel Schweiger for the liner notes.
Yup. Steven is fantastic. The liners also include interviews with Barbara Williams, Douglas Day Stewart, E.G. Daily, Bob Badami and of course Harold. Really one of my favorite 80's score-soundtracks and I love the film, so was thrilled to go the tote with this one in a similar way I did for Quartet's release of Cutter's Way.

I'm also waiting for the expanded Fletch. There are not many unexpanded/ unreleased HF scores left: Fatal Beauty, Top Gun and Fletch.
This is amazing because I feel like the Varèse CD was just issued last year. It has a September 2017 release date on it, but I believe it was delayed into December or even January 2018, meaning it came out five years ago, now. I guess maybe it was still available not too long ago, and that's why I think of it as being a recent release.
Anyway, I've never seen the film (I'm waiting for a Blu-ray with the unrated footage) but I've always really liked the music and the songs, so I ordered a copy. Thanks, Quartet!
