The Miami Vice Complete Collection 2CD was really a great gift in the early 2000's but it really wasn't complete, a lot of cues are missing especially from later seasons and even more so the cues done by John Petersen and Tim Truman.

Miami Vice really is a great series, the music played a big role and there's really a big community that desperatly wants more cues to be officialy released since that Complete Collection.

What do you think of it ?

Don't get me started. Maybe my number 1 Holy Grail.

Sadly, TWO fires ruined Petersen's music files, and Universal TV can't be bothered with releasing Truman's music.

Thankfully, many cues are available on youtube, even if the sound quality is so-so.

No no, Miami Vice was the biggest TV series at the time, music played a big role for sure there's other copies that are hidding somewhere, i know about the fires but surely some tapes even not masters have survived

IT changed TV as we know it and the music was a big part of it.

Clearly, i still listen to a lot of the ripped cues outside or when driving and they work so well, it's rare for a film and even more so for a series to have the score/cues still work outside of movie/episode.

I thought it was impossible but since Scarface got his score officialy released i can't help but think about a big set containing a big amount of cues from Miami Vice

We can only hope...

Q: Did you or anyone else ever consider releasing any of your music from Miami Vice on record?

Petersen: Yes, but there were two fires: one in my storage space which wiped out all of my multitrack tapes and original mixes, and one at Universal which destroyed all of the masters, I was told. Tragic.

I know but maybe some tapes or something else were simply not discovered because nobody actually looked for it, if Miami Vice wasn't a really success, like something really niche at the time i would understand that if those tapes are gone nothing really exists and it's impossible to release but c'mon we're talking about Miami Vice, everybody was glued to the TV when an episode aired

I made my own YouTube playlist of my favorite Vice cues, "Gabriella," "Rico's Blues," "Russian Story," "Please Don't Tell," "The Search," etc. All Hammer; I never got into Petersen and Truman's material as much.

Two of my favorite moody Hammer cues:

Seeing all of those unreleased cues is sad, it's been almost 40 years..

Truman's MV cues tend to be too "guitar-y" for me, but this is definitely one of his better pieces.

I’m actually watching the later seasons for the first time in years. Peterson seemed to replicate Hammer’s sound I think. Truman did some really nice work but Peterson blends in with the early music. I have the 2000 collection. I remember I couldn’t wait for that release.

I’ve actually enjoyed the season 4 & 5 episodes I’ve watched. Surprised actually.

The brilliant 2CD release from 2002 wasn't only a great and welcome release in and of itself, it was also my go-to-album for when I wrote my thesis in the university writing room (on headphones, obviously), back in the early 2000s. So I have a lot to thank that one for.

I had a couple of the songtrack releases once, but think I traded them away over the years.

I also have a digital collection of some 16 tracks (40 minutes) of Tim Truman's season 5 music, in varying quality, some of which is absolutely on Hammer's level (especially "Helicopter" and "Freefall"). Would love to get a commercial release of this.

Last week, I caught a few episodes from the final season, via Freevee. It's no mystery why Truman got the gig. That said, he used faux guitar too often and is nowhere near the melodist Hammer is.

For a nice helping of Jan's non-Vice score music, get Snapshots 1.2.

Unfortunately, between the alleged loss of the episode music masters from the Universal lot fire, and Mr. Hammer mentioning privately that he can no longer access many of the MIDI files due to various mechanical and storage failures, barring a miracle we won't be seeing a Complete Collection Vol. 2.

I wasn't a fan of Mr. Truman's score, as it was too close to the typical late 80s underscoring, which just wasn't what we had come to expect from the show. It was serviceable, but not much more, IMO. Of course, the last Season and a half (the "Burnett" arc notwithstanding) wasn't really up to par, either.
