I hope some earlier generation tapes have been found for this issue. The vinyl rip I've listened to on YouTube suggests that first or second generation tapes of this could sound spectacular. And the prospect of a whole second disc of material is really tantalizing. Whatever the case, I'm buying.

didnt the FSM cd contain more music score than the film?? so.... I presume it will be a LP presentation discc1+ complete score presentation disc2 Apparently. The original LP album had a different mix than the tapes used for the FSM CD. The sequencing was also different; some cues were edited-down, cleaved to other cues, etc.

A highly ambitious feature film animated adaptation of the legendary comic magazine HEAVY METAL required a musical underscore worthy of launching the entire enterprise into the stratosphere and the late, great Elmer Bernstein proved more than up to the challenge, delivering a rousing orchestral score that expertly drives the movie’s varied scenarios, moods and characters to wonderous heights. In total, the score remains a signature effort from one of the most uniquely American composers ever to come out of Hollywood. Produced by Neil S. Bulk and mastered by Doug Schwartz, this deluxe remastered release features the Score Presentation on Disc One, sourced from the composer’s own ¼” stereo tapes, while Disc Two unleashes the Original 1981 Score Album, which offers a different mix, and is also making its world premiere CD debut here, sourced from the original album masters. The score presentation is different from the FSM cd one, yes? No, exactly the same split of tracks and same track times. Even the source tapes are the same for the film score program (composer's 1/4" stereo tapes) see the FSM release description below: Heavy Metal: The Score has long been desired by soundtrack collectors. FSM releases not only the original LP but the complete score remastered from the composer’s personal 1/4” stereo tapes (in excellent sound quality). The cues are presented in chronological order, with bonus tracks of selections edited for the 1981 Asylum Records LP—meaning listeners can, if so inclined, program a recreation of the original album sequence. Then while the FSM had additional "album edit" tracks, that allowed you to recreate the album program (but with the film mixes), this new version has the album from the original album master, with a different mix. So, in terms of musical content, nothing additional here (just the album original mix).
