FSM has released at least two Ron Goodwin scores:
FORCE TEN FROM NAVARONE & OPERATION;CROSSBOW. Both came from the composer's private collection of 1/4 inch tapes.
Might not the composer also have a personal copy for this Hitchcock classic?

The music must still be licensed from Universal not matter who has a copy of the tapes, but Intrada has had some success there recently... Who knows?

It's so frustrating--we get dozens of re-recordings of FRENZY's Main Title, but no one ever records any of the great suspense music!

If it makes you feel better, the tapes DO exist in Goodwin's collection and are in reasonably good shape as far as I can tell. Unfortunately there's still the Universal thing, so Intrada could give a shot at it - we just have to make them aware of our demands!  Also Universal should have some tapes of Mancini's music too, otherwise I don't know how they could put the original main titles up to the scene in the documentary.
Actually, i think it makeS me feel WORSE!

Hi, I dug up this thread because I for one would love to have both Goodwin's great score as well as Mancini's unused score. What puzzled me was that since I don't own the Mancini in Surround cd, does anyone who has that album know if the DVD of the film have the Mancini title music from the Surround cd or is it from the original tracks?
I have the CD and the DVD. The recording used in the documentary is definitely not from Mancini's album. Since they used Herrmann's original racks for "Torn Curtain" for the alternate audio track on that DVD, I don't see why they wouldn't have used Mancini's original score tracks on the "Frenzy" DVD as well.

Thanks, this is highly interesting! If Mancini finished the sessions, unlike Herrmann, whose Torn Curtain session was cancelled by Hitch, I really hope the music will be released some day. The main titles sound very intriguing, wildly different than Goodwin's title music, which is great in its own right.
Unfortunately, as Mancini has been typecast as the easy-listening composer, so a release of Frenzy is less likely, unless it would contain commercially valid, hummable tunes (maybe "Necktie Cha Cha" or "Something for the Corpse")  Then again, Mancini's brilliant thriller score Wait Until Dark was released a few years ago, so who knows.

Big labels might think like that. Labels like FSM, Intrada, etc, wouldn't.
I don't see any reason why a release of Mancini's Frenzy should be any less saleable than so many other things that come out.
In fact, now you mention it, a release of Goodwin's score and the Mancini score (if recorded) would interest me much.
I assume that the usual re-use rules that force American recordings to be limited would not necessarily apply in this case, as I assume these were recorded in London. Do correct me if I'm wrong.
