Yeah. I'd love to see it.The main difference really is the opening. It was totally changed. Aside from that, Goldsmith's score fits in about 90% of the time. So, it wouldn't be that different.
Pretty cool work! I always liked the No Pain cue. I don't think Timeline is a particularly great score, it's fairly good though and this is interesting to see.
It is a shame. From what I can tell, the beginning (The Dig) and some of the father-son stuff was all redone, but the rest works (as you'll see) and the little bits that were slightly trimmed can be fixed with some simple little edits. Then again, Gloldsmith probably didn't want some music editor making slices in his stuff. Tyler's is serviceable. I don't hate it. I just was always curious to see Goldsmith's vision of the movie, the way he spots it.
All look and sound great with Goldsmith's music. Great job Mutant!
I really don't like Richard Donner for doing what he did.
After Goldsmith won the Oscar for music for Donner's THE OMEN, you'd think the word "loyalty" and "appreciation" and actions of "going to the mat" and "making it work" might have entered Donner's brain. What a way to be treated just before your passing.
Mutant, I've always been curious: Are you doing these things for some kind of research or is it just a....well, "hobby" of sorts?
It's a labour of love for me. I've always been obsessed with trying to match up rejected scores to their films. I can't express to you the extreme satisfaction I feel after figuring out a scene and watching it unfold for the first time. The second best feeling is when other film score fans (like you guys!) watch and enjoy my clips!
Somehow, I have always managed to avoid seeing this film, having heard the wonderful Goldsmith score and just plain not being able to bring myself to watch this film with the Tyler replacement score.
Now, having seen these clips with the Goldsmith, I don't think I ever will be able to accept the Tyler. This truly is Goldsmith's last great score. When Goldsmith refused to do a rescore, Donner might have better chosen to bring Joel McNeely on (he did such a great job supplanting JG on AIR FORCE ONE) to do the patch work on the Goldsmith score, just to preserve the stuff that still worked with the new edit. This has such emotional weight compared to the few scenes I've seen with Tyler's score.
And, I fully admit to my prejudice in favor of Goldsmith.
Would love to see ALIEN NATION with Jerry's rejected score.
It's a fairly forgotten movie and much of it has to do with Curt Sobel's replacement score, Jerry's score is much more powerful.
I've done it already and believe me, it wasn't easy. I did it last year or so and posted them here and youtube. After a few months, FOX sent me a nasty email and removed them (and told me not to re-upload them) I might fight it (fair use), but for now, I don't want to risk losing my channel. Paramount and Warner don't seem to mind.
They were great though, I'd really like to share them, but...
By the way guys, I just finished another Timeline clip and it's one of the best yet: the "Rooftop" scenes. It will be online within the hour.

I can only imagine how Track 2 from the Varese Club CD "think its called (Out Back)" would sound with the final film-mix in the opening chase. Those heavy synth drums and the on screen action, Ohhh I'm getting goosebumps even thinking about it.
