Over the years, I have picked up about two dozen of the approximately 400 LPs (also released as reel-to-reel tapes) in the CBS EZ CUE LIBRARY series. They are a rich source of vintage CBS-TV scoring and library music from the 1950s-1070s. You can find cues by Bernard Herrmann, Jerry Goldsmith, Jerome Moross, Ernest Gold, Fred Steiner, Richard Shores, Wilbur Hatch, Leonard Rosenman, William Lava, Robert Drasnin, Nathan Van Cleave, Lyn Murray, and Lucien Moraweck, Rene Garriguenc, and many others in this library. My question is this: Does anyone or any place have a comprehensive or complete cataloging of the cues in the entire series. Perhaps one of the university libraries? The LPs that I have tantalize me as to what more musical gems remain undiscovered. I think Ray Faiola once told me that CBS donated their entire EZ CUE library collection to one of the universities (ULCA?). Does anyone have a lead as to where I might look online or this information? Those of you who have picked up the Jerry Goldsmith - The Early Years (Volume One) by Prometheus have an idea of what quality scoring is waiting to see the light of day. Hmmm - I wonder when is Volume Two coming? Ford? Ron Burbella

MR, I had occasion top peruse this catalogue many years back, and I believe the bulk of the material comes from the late 50's to the early 60's, pre-dating Morton Stevens' CBS period of activity. I can't really recall any of his stuff being represented in to the catalogue.

I googled "cbs ez-cue" and low and behold, I'm directed back to this crazy place! I have some of the old "ez-cue" recordings. Three of my favorites are one with some original "Perry Mason" cues, another with brutal baritone sax work and another of a selection of main titles by Lyn Murray and David Buttolph. I've always wanted to track down what films those main T's are from. My brother and I found a bunch of these at a flea market back in the golden days of digging for vinyl. The both of us went back to that place several times and sifted through thousands of LP's looking for more. They are great! Some of the stuff in that library has been released commercially. Bernard Herrmann's "Outer Space Suite" on Cerberus, as well as three other LP's on Cerberus. The Varese Sarabande "Twilight Zone" recordings, "Goldsmith, The Early Years" and whatever else.

Since my original post, I have been able to find the contents of the CBS EZ CUE Library (music) from an actual catalog that contained the contents, cue-by-cue, with composer and "take" number for each cue, for LPs 101-175. And the contents of the entire series came my way on 32 CDRs (digitally cleaned up, with sound booth workers calling the slates for each cue) Wow, what a find! Paul, you said that your LPs include catalog numbers 176-177-178-179, which are missing from my copy of the catalog. So I am very interested in the content of the last 4 LPs, if they exist. Please contact me privately if you do have them. The other (higher number) CBS EZ CUE LPs seem to be from the "CBS SOUND EFFECTS LIBRARY." Trains, airplanes, zoos, crowds, etc. Having this catalog lets you figure out where the Jerry Goldsmith, Bernard Herrmann, Leonard Rosenman, Ernest Gold, Jerome Moross, Fred Steiner (quite a lot), etc. cues are! Here's the title list. By the way, an asterisk (*) means that I have the LP. Being a vinyl collector, I still am looking for the actual LPs, so if you have any that you want to dispose of, please contact me privately. Though now that they are available on CDRs, their value has declined, with a few exceptions. ********************************************** CBS EZ CUE MUSIC LIBRARY RECORDINGS 101 Electronic Effects 102 Ethnic: African; American Indian 103 Drama - Documentaries 104 Drama - Documentaries 105 Comedy Backrounds & Bridges 106* Dramatic - Suspense 107* Dramatic & Anthology Main Titles 108 Ethnic: Spain 109 Western Backgrounds 110* Western Backgrounds 111* Mexican Backgrounds 112 Dance Band 113 Dramatic - Dark Bridges 114* City Backgrounds 115 Comedy - Main Titles & Bridges 116 Dramatic - Dark Backgrounds 117 Western Backgrounds 118* Western Backgrounds 119* Romantic Materials 120 Restaurant Music - Gypsy 121 Comedy - Farce 122* Comedy Backgrounds 123 Fantasy 124 Metropolitan - Chase 125 Fantasy 126 Space - Fantasy 127* Dramatic Bridges 128 Dramatic Punctations 129* Descriptive - Pastoral, Landscapes 130 Descriptive - Panoramics/Descriptive - Seascapes, Panoramics 132 Music Boxes - Public Domain/Celeste Solo - Public Domain 132 Circus, Carnival & Fairground Music - Public Domain/Composers 133 Religious Materials - Public Domain 134 Bugle Calls/Bugle Calls & Military Backgrounds 135 Piano Solos - Public Domain 136 Harpsichord Solos - Public Domain/Piano Solos - Public Domain 137 Banjo Solos - Public Domain/Barrelhouse Piano - Public Domain) 138 Harmonica Solos - Public Domain 139 Western Backgrounds 140* Romantic Materials 141* Romantic Materials 142* American Indian Backgrounds 143 Asiatic, Indian & Chinese Backgrounds/Dalmatian & Slavic Backgrounds 144* City Backgrounds 145* Dramatic Backgrounds (plaintive, melancholy, lonely) 146* Fantasy 147* Western Backgrounds 148* Western Backgrounds 149* Dramatic - Suspense 150* Romantic Materials 151 Space - Fantasy 152 Dramatic - Suspense 153 Comedy - Farce; Pantomines/Comedy - Bridges 154 Fantasy/Fantasy - Space 155* Comedy - Farce 156 Concert Waltzes 157 Light Favorites 158 Popular Classics 159 Popular Favorites/Favorite Classics 160 Marches 161 Stephen Foster Melodies 162 Victor Herbert Melodies 163 Mexicali Brass 164 Mexicali Brass 165 Crime Backgrounds 166 Industrial & Machines 167 Electronic Music 168 Fanfares & Signals 169 Marches 170 Religious Music 171 Jazz 172 Jazz 173* Jazz // Bossa Nova - Cha-Cha/Rhumba 174 Dance - Latin & Twenties/Rock 'n' Roll 175* Rock 'n' Roll 176 [--???--] 177 [--???--] 178 [--???--] 179 [--???--] OTHER CBS LIBRARY SOURCES Twilight Zone Music Cues (4 Cds) Bernard Herrmann's Western Music Cues Bernard Herrmann Gothic Music Cues The Early Jerry Goldsmith Ron Burbella (BurbellaRon@cs.com)

If I had my recordings in hand I could be more specific about catalog numbers. There's at least one other ez cue main title LP not included in your list. Many of the titles my brother and I found at the flea market are included in your list as well as several others. "Big Band Bongos" is one that comes to mind. "Big Band Bongos" sounds to be recorded early 70's and always struck me as perhaps cues from some obscure "Blaxploitation" film. Just as soon as I'm able to access my recordings I'll be able to offer specifics. The older ones have slightly larger than standard, gray labels. Some of the others, orange labels.

Ruk, drop me a line with the mp3 attached at: sturges47@earthlink.net I might be able to place it for you. I have the feeling what you are going to send is a Goldsmith cue from TWILIGHT ZONE, either "The Invaders' or "Back There."
