I have plenty of Morricone in my collection but zero Bruno Nicolai. Would really appreciate a few recommendations to start off a Bruno collection.

My own personal Nicolai favorites are "Indio Black" and "Run Man Run" both of which are splendid Italian Western scores. But if you want one of the best Italian Western themes ever, you've got to try to get,"Gli Fumavano Le Colt...Lo Chiamavano Camposanto" on Beat CDCR 39.
It features some of Alessandroni's greatest whistling ever.

LOVE BIRDS is very nice indeed, a good introduction to Nicolai - lots of romantic and catchy tracks.
Any of the giallos, particularly CASE OF THE BLOODY IRIS and ALL THE COLORS OF THE DARK (I won't attempt the Italian titles for any of these..!) - wonderful main themes and plenty of moody suspense cues.
As someone already mentioned, FEMMINE INSAZIABILI is a delightful hoot from beginning to end.
I've become quite addicted to this composer in recent months, really love his music. Yes, he is very Morricone-esque, more so than many of his Italian contemporaries.
The downside is that many Nicolai titles are 500 limited editions from the likes of GDM, Digitmovies etc and can be difficult to come by (and then rather expensive on eBay and the like).
Oh, another one I have been playing repeatedly for the past few months - TEN LITTLE INDIANS/AND THEN THERE WERE NONE (the 70s version with Oliver Reed). Two wonderfully catchy themes (which as usual with Nicolai CDs get reprised throughout) and the usual dissonant-but-still-listenable spooky/suspense cues (I saw the movie recently and am curious that the very nice opening and closing theme from the CD does not appear anywhere in the film..!)
I hope you enjoy discovering the music of this wonderful composer as much as I am.

Simply gorgeous!  As with countless other Italian soundtracks of this era, the incredible voice of Edda Dell'Orso is a major factor in the exquisite beauty of this music.

Some great recommendations here, just looking at what is currently available on cd here is what I would recommend as a starter:
1. JUSTINE - on Edipan. Beautiful symphonic period score (another one of his best symphonic scores VITA DI MICHELANGELO is sadly not available on cd yet).
2. TUTTI IL COLORI DEL BIUO (All the Colours of Darkness) - on Digitmovies. Great giallo score, check out the brilliant 'Sabba' theme, as well as the romantic main theme.
3. EUGENIE DE SADE 70 - on Digitmovies. A wealth of great themes on this 2 cd set.
4. EL CRISTO DEL OCEANO - on Digitmovies. Beautiful main themes, very haunting.
...............then my 3 favourite western scores of his (100,000 DOLLARI PER RINGO is also great!):
5. CORRI UOMO CORRI - on Digitmovies.
6. INDIO BLACK - on GDM.
7. ANDA MUCHACHA SPARA - on CAM. Only 25 minutes, but 25 superlative minutes (even though CAM missed off the trumpet version on the main theme).
8. LA DAMA ROSSA UCCIDE SETTE VOLTA - on Digitmovies. Another superb giallo score, some really haunting themes on this one.
9. LA BATTAGLIA DEL DESERTO - on Digitmovies. Powerful war score.
10. L'ONORATA FAMIGLIA - on Edipan. Lively gangster movie score.
It is also worth mentioning that some of his best scores have still not been published on cd like the aforementioned VITA DEL MICHELANGELO, but also CIVILTA DEL MEDITERRANEO, DON GIOVANNI IN SICILIA, CAMMINA CAMMINA, L'ARMA MERVIGLIOSA and L'ALPIN SEMPRE QUELLE.

I forgot 99 DONNE on Digitmovies, this one has great variety. There's some funky stuff but also some beautiful orchestral themes in the vein of JUSTINE. Dave.

I'll second the recommendation for Land Raiders. I think Prometheus released it long ago, but I only know it from the film (where it is awesome).

Could I just thank everyone who has taken the time to make some recommendations. I really appreciate it and will start to pick up some of these CDs and perhaps report back here with my opinions after listening. Thanks again.
