Hello La La Land? I need and expanded/complete score of this amazing score, one of James Newton Howard's best scores. The original album is a poor presentation and the sound quality is not the best. Who agrees?

I have the original album and like it, but not sure if I want an expansion of this when there's still an amazing score like 'outbreak' with only a 30 minute album release. So I'd much prefer Outbreak expanded over The Postman.

Yeah, what a terrible album presentation. One of the first albums I "re-produced" with the advent of the CDR. The main "hero theme" sounds so much like Apollo 13 that it's a bit distracting, but other than that (OK, yes, and the direct lift of Wyatt Earp's "It All Ends Now" at the head of "The Restored United States Of America" cue), it's a pretty fantastic work. The ferocious percussion that starts when he rips his sleeve to reveal the 8 on his sleeve (or whatever it was, it's been a while) was goosebump material.

Funny, I was just thinking of this movie because I've been on a trailer-watching binge on Vudu. Their trailer of The Postman has boobs in it and everything! Boobs, I say! Boobs!

A re-jiggered release of this score is entirely justified. My opinion (and yours), of course.

Shaun

The postman score definitively deserves an expanded album.
James Newton Howard wrote an amazing (and long) score.
My favorite cue is the bridge sequence, when The postman escapes the Holnists.

This is my favorite score from James Newton Howard along with Dinosaur.

An expanded Waterworld would be nice.

I really like Waterworld, but Jesus, how much more can you get out of it? It makes Speed look like a slow ride to Grandma's house.

The Postman is a great effort. It has been so long since I have seen the movie I couldn't even begin to guess how much music is missing from the CD. The movie was pretty long, so there may be quit a bit. JNH did some great work in the 90's. Anyone have any idea how many minutes of music is missing from the CD ?

at least 90 minutes. I read an interview where he stated he had composed 2 hours and 20 minutes of music (and the work wasn't finished yet).

Considering that the album is also heavily edited, "whole" score is unreleased in its original form.

For a "better listening experience", the editing of the album was very well done IMHO.

The score you listen on CD is made of 21 cues from the original score. 1 cue is repeated twice in the film and part of the "love scene" is not used in the film.

I actually kinda liked this film -- and its score -- even while also recognizing some of its flaws. I think it has received too much undeserved flack over the years. And WATERWORLD is a wonderful film and pleasure of mine (and also JNH's best score ever!).

I agree, The Postman, while no masterwork, feels like an overstuffed 70's SF outing to me, and lots of B movie fun. It is way too serious and way too long, but still managed to be entertaining, heck I even picked up the BluRay cheap. Waterworld, for me, is a solid SF action piece, the bad press really overshadowed how good it is... the humor really helps carry the movie and we've watched it a number of times. And yeah both scores are great , Waterworld especially has some top notch thunderous action writing

I most remember this score from it's use in the trailer for A CIVIL ACTION, which also featured the opening cue from Williams' NIXON. Best scored trailer ever?

I was pleasantly surprised by both Waterworld and The Postman (both film and score) I would love expanded versions of both.

Thor, how would you feel about an expanded Waterworld (given that it's your fav Newton Howard score). Did you notice any cues in the film that you'd like to hear sans sfx and dialogue?

The Postman OST is a solid score. I am not familiar with the film so I don't know how it could be improved on. Waterworld is one of JNH early disappointments. Doesn't have memorable themes and just seems to wander.

I'd buy an expanded of this in a heartbeat. I even like the Amy Grant/Costner song at the end.

Creature Features back in the day had a signing with JNH and he was signing The Postman. I ordered a copy through them and got it signed. This was before I was into autographs and some time later I freaking sold it, CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT? DMD, oh what an idiot you are sometimes.

I plan on getting it back signed again, hopefully one day.

I also enjoy this film. I haven't seen Waterworld yet, I need to.

As usual, I prefer the existing album. One because I don't remember anything particularly worthwhile left off (and I've seen the movie many times), two because I usually don't care so much what is left off in the first place as long as the album works and three because I think it's such a smokin' good listening experience that has everything - aweinspiring religious music, beautiful synth textures, swashbuckling heroic music, gorgeous love themes and tons of cool exotic percussion effects -- organized in a way that gives it a story of general adventure all on its own. Here's an album that works great in a 70-minute running time!
