What scores has he done - I keep hearing good things about him. I assume his style is not on the classical side? Tell me more...

Starship Troopers will rock your world! Les Miserables is lovely and melodic. Also try to hunt down the, ahem, "unofficial" CD of Breakdown for Basil's incredible, rejected score.

especially as it's one of THE best film scores ever. Indeed, in my humble opinion there has never been a filmscore better then Conan.

"I assume his style is not on the classical side?" "You assume too much!" In my opinion, Basil Poledouris' music is much in the same vein as Goldsmith's music, which is probably why Paul Verhoeven uses both composers. For example, I saw The Sum of All Fears yesterday, and I couldn't help but notice that parts of the score resembled Poledouris' Conan. Recommended Poledouris scores: Conan the Barbarian Conan the Destroyer The Hunt for Red October Les Miserables Quigley Down Under Lonesome Dove Free Willy The Jungle Book Robocop Starship Troopers NP: Goldsmith's Legend

...and in the absence of Big Bear I'll say it for him and myself... CONAN THE BARBARIAN Amen, hallelujah... and thanks for the shout out, Timmer. I am presently busting my hump on a new production, so I've had very little time to read or post lately. Speak to you all (hopefully) very soon.

I have got to add my name to the list of kudos for one of the most under-used composers of all time (the other being the incomparable Bruce Broughton). Calling "Conan the Barbarian" one of the best scores of all time, doesn't do it enough justice. The score is gothic, brutal, savage and at times lyrical and heartbreakingly romantic. It is Miklos Rozsa and Erich Wolfgang Korngold reincarnated... in fact (don't hate me Orig), I doubt if Maestro Rozsa could have done better (but I would love to hear the effort). If you get the Conan cd, be prepared to become immediately addicted to this man's work... Next to John Williams and Jerry Goldsmith, this guy is THE man!!!! Recommended: Les Miserable The Hunt For Red October Conan The Destroyer (for fun) and Robocop (also a must have) Big Ken: off to the Pits for yet another battle then home to read the poetry of Soong...

Of course, Conan the Barbarian, one of the best film scores of all time, is out of print. Re-record this thing already! Damn. (And do it right.)
