Yes, why labels do not sell videos with the recording sessions of movie scores?

Would you not love to see, lets say, Tim Simonec conducting the recording sessions of the new Star Trek movie on Blu-Ray or DVD with DTS sound?

Or Hazimmer spanking his keyboard with a dead cat for "Inception"?

Is it possible? Yes? No? Why?

Would you not love to see, lets say, Michael Giacchino conducting the recording sessions of the new Star Trek movie on Blu-Ray or DVD with DTS sound?

That would be quite difficult considering Tim Simonec conducted the score.

Why not?

Expensive to produce, even smaller audience.

That's why not.

If it was a union session then for everything beyond allowable promotional use every person shown would have to sign off and be paid, and any music heard would have to be licensed. Also, if it were on a studio lot like Fox or Sony then a union crew would have to shoot it.

Isn't what happens when a concert is recorded and released on video?

Sure, but a concert is different than three or more days of rehearsal and recording of a score sections at a time. Considering how much studio work is done pre- and post- live recording session, I don't think there is much to look at.

A doc on the process of writing, recording and laying in a score might be something, but raw surveillance footage of a studio orchestra isn't that interesting.

Well, that covers any state in the U.S. with unions, but what about places overseas, like the LMO and the LSO?

There was a dvd of Jerry Goldsmith a couple of years ago. It was very expensive and I wonder how many purchased it.

"Why not release videos of Recording Sessions?"

Because I deem them unnecessary!

Since that films gets special features on DVDs an Blurays, and film scores are treated more like movies in these days, I always thought that they should release footage of the scoring sessions.

Like a behind the scenes feature. Having the composer talking about the themes, how does he gets inspiration for the film he's scoring, the final mix, and composer's final speech to the orchestra (JNH's King Kong speech is beautiful).
