After my Saturday finds, I recently added "Ultimate Sinatra" and "A Voice On Air" through recommendations on here and from friends. I now have: "Frank Sinatra In Hollywood" "Frank Sinatra The V-Discs" "Frank Sinatra The Capitol Years" "Frank Sinatra The Complete Capitol Singles Collection" "Frank Sinatra The Best of the Columbia Years 1943-1952 "Frank Sinatra The Reprise Collection" "Sinatra Vegas" I certainly realize that there is some repetition here, but I am wondering if I am missing some wonderful music from Ole Blue Eyes'. I know there are certainly some pricey sets that consist of 12 and ever 21 discs. I don't want to put forth the kind of money that is being asked for these extensive sets. The Capitol Years are a 3 disc and 4 disc set and the only difference is disc 4. I purchased one and I inherited the other. I think I know which 3-CD set you have, which is basically a "hits" collection, so now you need to hear the "concept" albums as Sinatra intended listeners to hear them. Between 1953 and 1962 Sinatra put his heart and soul into his concept albums. Some were ballad albums and some were swing albums each one based on a central idea and a sustained mood. Once you've heard these concept albums, you'll be asking yourself (usually after slapping your own forehead) "What took me so long?!" The albums themselves are the main body of Sinatra's music. If you haven't heard the concept albums you've overlooked 95% of his best work. I now have: "Frank Sinatra The Capitol Years" Check to see if your set is mastered by Bob Norberg or Larry Walsh. The Larry Walsh mastering are very clean and faithful to the master tapes. That's the nature of the set. But it's still enjoyable. Whereas the earlier 3-disc THE CAPITOL YEARS has the superior mastering by Larry Walsh, as does the 16-CD set in the U.K.    Posted:   Apr 26, 2016 - 7:19 PM     By:   Octoberman   (Member) The Capitol era is where the puddle gets pretty muddy, for the reasons that Onya just mentioned. I've done more than a little reading about the issues and, even though the Norberg remasters are mostly disliked, there are a few people out there (apparently) who are okay with them. Conversely, there is a small percentage of listeners who (again, apparently) take issue with the Walsh remasters (something about the artificial widening of the stereo field, I think--or perhaps added reverb... I can't exactly recall). Eee-Dee mentioned that she had the 3-disc Capitol set and the 4-disc Capitol Singles set, so I would say for the time being she's got that era nicely covered--not completely, by any means, but I'm not sure she was talking about being a completist anyway. I don't have this set (my brother does) but I believe the booklet cover is purple as you described. EDIT: Ah, I see from the Discogs images the purple booklet is confirmed. I will suggest a few more in a couple of days after she's had time to secure The Capitol Concepts Albums replica set. Octoberman, there is no indication who did the mastering in the Capitol Records Concepts Albums box, but if I were to take an educated guess, I'd say Walsh with noise reduction inexplicably added.
