I wasn't quite comfortable with the thread that Josh created (in jest), nor the ongoing NP (non-film) thread that has become too "stuffy" with 95% classical and jazz. So I decided to start this new one.

This is about anything that is NOT film (or other media music), NOT classical and NOT jazz.

In other words, it's about ROCK, it's about POP and it's about ELECTRONIC music. Perhaps even MUSICALS. And so on. You get the drift.

I'll start.

I'll try to post here from time to time, although I have a tendency to be online when I'm not listening to music, and listen to music when I'm not online. :-D

I haven't even found out how to post a picture of a cover.

Now Playing (ROCK and POPULAR MUSIC)

... uhmmm ... nothing.

I don't listen to popular music or rock.

What's so stuffy about classical?

Then feel free just to post a cover of an album you like from time to time.

For images, type [ img ]link[ /img ] (but obviously without the spaces). Remember to remove the http:// of the link.

Listened to these late 80s offerings last night for a bit (not at the same timewink) before watching some Champions League football. Both on vinyl, good albums...

My good friend Thor could pass for a native English speaker, but occasionally - VERY occasionally - his vocabulary can let him down. He says "stuffy" when he clearly means "relevant, exciting, vibrant and not remotely as superficial as 99% of pop music". Easy mistake to make. I might do the same when conversing in Norwegian. (I picked quite a lot up when watching Wallender and The Bridge)

He, he....well, I LOVE classical music in all shapes and forms. But I need my pop music and rock too; and I felt the other thread was becoming too 'occupied' with classical and jazz -- like a dimly lit, smoke-filled room all dressed in mahogany and chesterfield, reeking of whiskey and sweat. Someone needs to open up a window!

Although I listen to a big variety of classical & soundtracks, my pop listening seems to be getting smaller, 60's Beatles 70's Kevin Ayers, Sparks & Steely Dan (but there's a good few albums there), I do have about 20 greatest hits albums, Dylan, 10CC, The Eagles, stuff like that, & I am working my way through Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel, great seventies pop. I bought five albums in The Original Albums series, lots of great sets in that series, five CD albums for £8-£14 (Cockney Rebel is a lot more expensive now, I think it's been deleted).

An album I've been listening to a lot lately, Kevin Ayers 3rd, Whatevershesingswebring, a typical piece of early 70's Ayers genius. I don't know how to bring up the cover.

Oh, & two late Sparks albums, Lil' Beethoven & Exotic Creatures Of The Deep. I wasn't sure about Lil' Beethoven when I bought it a couple of years ago, but I love it now.

...& thinking about Sparks, The Final Derriere is very...Sparks

I love The Big Area, terrific pop/rock-song. Haven't really heard anything else by them.

MUCH more commercial than I had expected, and so a little disappointing.
