Anyone here into modern swing revival? I found some groups from 5-10 years ago tonight on a YouTube playlist; I'm wondering if anyone here knows who the best young swing groups are as of 2020. Browser searching hasn't been too helpful.
"Blues of the Vagabond"- Duke Ellington and the Harlem Footwarmers
My all-time favorite Duke Ellington composition. I love that 1930, Great Depression sound and have wanted to compile a list of other such tunes. The trumpet solo starting at 2:17 is wonderfully...depressing, but it also swings.
Wasn't crazy about the vocal in the song above. "St. James Infirmary" is more gothic than that newfangled stuff.
The only new-era swing I recall was those mid-'90s groups: Royal Crown Revue, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Etc.
Sorry I couldn't be of more--or any--help.
I appreciate the feedback! I'm auditioning some electro swing today. Here's a sly one: A track released this year noting that as we're entering the 2020s it's time to bring back the jazz era of the 1920s. With its mix of hip hop and old school swing this reminds me a lot of the musical approach of the Leonardo DiCaprio "Great Gatsby" song score. Party up!
