Well, the wife and I played quite a bit of Scrabble and Trivial Pursuit during the warmer weather in the garden until a few days ago when it turned a little cooler.

Aggravation is good to play with a mix of children and adults. Always fun to gang up on the player in the lead.

Big fan of board games. Probably our favorite type are the cooperative games. Our favorite cooperative game, or at least the one that seems to make it to the table the most is Zombicide. As the name suggests, it is a zombie apocalypse game with a modular board, and numerous scenarios to play through. Everyone plays a survivor who has his or her own unique abilities, and we work our way through the board trying to find new weapons, kill zombies, and complete objectives. The game is pretty tongue in cheek for the most part, but it can bring some intense moments. There is a modern version, a fantasy version which is our favorite, and a sci fi version of the game. Tons of fun.
We also like many of the games based on the Cthulhu Mythos, so games like Arkham Horror, Elder Sign, Eldritch Horror, and our new favorite of this type: Cthulhu: Death May Die
We also like dungeon crawl type games, and several others. As we play, I always have a thematically appropriate score playing in the background.

I don't play them, as i know no one who does, other than scrabble now and again. As a kid my favourites were: Space Crusade, HeroQuest, Lost Valley of the Dinosaurs, I Vant To Bite Your Finger
But I did make my own boardgame to make my friend laugh (it look srubbish but plays okay). It was quite basic and about working at our old place we all used to work. You had to go around the board get clients, work some hours then try and quit. It's just a big in-joke to amuse friends.
To work on it i did look up hour and hours of board games reviews to see what you can do. At Christmas i had to do a lot of research for buying a friend a board game and bought them one called The Quest to Eldorado. It was pretty good fun.

One thing that surprised me is how expensive board games are. I was genuinely shocked. Also, that many just go out of print very quickly. So if you missed them within maybe a year of production, you'll never see them again.

Now this one looks very nice and seems to be quite fun (I have been reading through the BoardGameGeek comments). Nice minis too. As soon as the social distancing is liftet somewhat, I will have to get together a group for frequent gaming sessions.

How easy are games like Zombicide and Nemesis for a group of people who don't usually play board games? Is there a massive amount of rule-reading and understanding beforehand? Or is it relatively easy to pick up?
Zombicide is pretty easy to learn even for non-gamers. After playing a round or two most people have it down pretty well. The instruction manual is very well written, with many illustrations that help teach the mechanics. The back cover also has a quick reference guide that covers most situations. We have taught the game to several people who didn't have much experience with board games and they have had no problem learning the game. There are also a bunch of YouTube videos that teach how the game is played.
