Brace yourself for... not what you might expect! This article tells about how it's a real lesson in pitfalls to get a windfall like this. http://news.yahoo.com/big-winners-share-lessons-risks-powerball-win-081059542.html I remember reading a book about lottery winners. Prominent among the things that happened were 1) a lot squandered their winnings, 2) many lost a LOT of friends and 3) most had to move. *(It's now $550 million). *(I wish I could play but I don't even know where to buy a ticket. Maybe they don't have it in California?)

David, I just purchased a Powerball ticket for you. Seriously...the drawing is two hours from now, and ticket sales end in one hour. As soon as I read your note, I ran off to my convenience store and purchased one ticket for you, and one for my friend Lois, who also lives in California. I had already purchased mine earlier today. Just to keep things above board, here are those numbers: MINE: 06 08 10 11 13 Powerball 09 LOIS: 09 25 34 38 52 Powerball 09 DAVID: 04 17 28 45 55 Powerball 19 I'll report back here as soon as the numbers are chosen. Results can be seen at palottery.com.

These Romney and Bush types who want to be in charge of everything confound me- why work that hard when you don't have to?) And no, Powerball is not played in CA.

why work that hard when you don't have to? Because there are those of us who believe that self respect and dignity are earned through work, regardless of how much money one may have in the bank. Right. Because, you know, being afforded the rare opportunity to actually spend your life pursuing your own intersts for reasons of self-enrichment, knowledge, and fulfillment (or even to pursue philanthropic endeavors!) can in no way bring any measure of self-respect or dignity to your life. No, the only way to achieve self-respect and diginity in life is to work, work, work! Give me a break.

If I won the lottery it would be bye, bye employer. I would do something more productive with my "free" time, like help shelter animals or help the elderly. I would still work, but not for the money or for an employer. Bravo, Solium. Too little of our society goes to help those with fewer advantages, so if you had the free time, I'm glad you would choose to help them.

Upon winning, moving away is all part of the plan anyway. Well, Adam, in these cases it was more a necessity because they had to get away from the hassles brought on by their windfall, not JUST because they previously wanted to move.

As Han Solo says, "never tell me the odds!" If only one could pull a Kirk Kobayashi move on the six eyed monster, eh? Actually the odds are 59C5 = 5, 006, 386 possibilities. 5, 006, 386 multiplied by 35 other possibilities makes 175, 223, 510 impossibilites. Think I'll skip. The euro millions game over here has 50C5 = 2, 118, 760 possibilites multiplied by another 11C2 = 55 possibles. That makes a total 116, 531, 800 attempts at ultimate failure. I think you guys might as well play the euro game. The odds are marginally better. Now, what are the odds of being born as George Lucas and making even more money than the ones above ever hope to attain. Hmmmm.
